Short answer

Gumroad pays creators in India by direct bank deposit in Indian rupees to a local bank account. Gumroad does not offer PayPal, Payoneer, Wise or wire payouts for India, so the bank deposit is the only withdrawal route. The marketplace does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so no payout is calculated.

Who this is for: This page is for Indian creators, individuals and registered businesses, who sell digital products such as e-books, courses, templates, software and memberships on Gumroad and want those earnings paid into an Indian bank account.

What withdrawal methods does Gumroad support for India?

How does each Gumroad withdrawal method work?

How does Direct bank deposit in INR to an Indian bank account work for Gumroad payouts?

You fill in Payments settings with India as your country, your legal name, address and Indian bank account. Stripe verifies your identity. Gumroad then pays your balance in INR on your payout schedule, per Getting paid by Gumroad.

  • Pros: Payouts arrive in rupees, so no separate conversion step happens at your bank; Weekly, monthly or quarterly schedules with a threshold you choose; A CSV report for each payout shows every Gumroad fee and sale
  • Cons: No PayPal, Payoneer, Wise or wire transfer option for Indian creators; Daily and instant payouts are limited to US creators; The rupee amount is fixed at the rate on the sale date, so you carry no rate choice at payout
  • Cost: Gumroad's help pages list no separate fee for bank payouts to India. Gumroad's own fees come out of each sale before your balance builds up, per Gumroad's fees. Your Indian bank may apply its own inward credit charges.
  • Time: Payouts to Indian bank accounts go out on Tuesdays and cover sales made through the previous Friday (UTC), so each sale waits at least 7 days. Bank payouts can take 2 to 7 business days to process, per Getting paid by Gumroad.
  • FIRA: Gumroad's help pages do not mention a FIRA or FIRC. Gumroad pays through its processor Stripe, per Filling out payout settings. Ask your Indian bank which inward remittance record it can issue for each Gumroad credit.
  • Ideal for: Indian creators who want Gumroad sales credited in rupees to their own savings or current account on a regular schedule.

How do you set up Gumroad withdrawals to India?

  1. Create a Gumroad account and add at least one product, such as an e-book, course, template, software download or membership.
  2. Open Payments settings and choose Individual if you sell under your own name, or Business if you hold business registration documents.
  3. Select India as your country and save that change on its own first, since a country change clears saved bank, identity and tax details.
  4. Enter your full legal name, date of birth, phone number and a physical address. Gumroad does not accept a P.O. Box.
  5. Add your Indian bank account with the account holder name exactly as your bank records it, along with any tax ID number the settings ask for.
  6. Complete Stripe identity verification when asked, using a colour JPEG or PNG of your photo ID and a recent proof of address.
  7. Choose a weekly, monthly or quarterly schedule and a payout threshold of at least US$100.
  8. Wait for Gumroad's account review, which can take 1 to 3 weeks and typically needs 3 to 4 genuine sales with a balance over US$100.

How much INR do you receive on $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 from Gumroad?

Gumroad does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so INR amounts are not calculated. The methods table above lists every fee it does publish.

What fees does Gumroad charge before you withdraw?

Gumroad charges 10 percent plus $0.50 on direct sales and a flat 30 percent on Discover sales, per Gumroad's fees. That page says the direct fee excludes card processing of 2.9 percent plus $0.30. For example, a $100 direct sale carries a $10.50 Gumroad fee, and card processing at that rate is $3.20. Payout CSVs show actual deductions.

What tax forms and TDS apply to Gumroad earnings?

Gumroad's help pages describe no W-8BEN or tax interview step for Indian creators. Gumroad says the only tax forms it issues are US forms for eligible US sellers, per Gumroad's 1099 help. Gumroad acts as merchant of record and collects sales tax, VAT and GST from buyers where it has tax obligations.

  • W-8BEN: Gumroad's help pages describe no W-8BEN step for creators outside the US. Form 1099-K goes only to US-based accounts above $20,000 and 200 transactions, per Gumroad's 1099 help. The IRS says a foreign person gives Form W-8BEN when the payer asks, so complete it only if Gumroad or Stripe requests it. See W-8BEN for Indian freelancers.
  • TDS: Gumroad's help pages do not describe any Indian TDS deduction. Gumroad's Terms of Service let it withhold tax where it considers applicable law requires it, without grossing up. Check your payout CSV for deductions. See TDS on marketplace payouts.
  • Sales tax: Gumroad has been merchant of record for all sales since 1 January 2025, per its pricing page, and collects and remits sales tax worldwide, per Sales tax on Gumroad. Its Terms of Service treat Gumroad as the supplier for indirect tax on resales and say you must not invoice buyers yourself. See merchant of record in India.
  • GST on fees: Gumroad's help pages do not say whether GST applies to the fee it charges an Indian creator. If you hold a GSTIN, ask your tax adviser whether you must pay GST on that fee under reverse charge, and keep the payout CSV that lists every Gumroad fee.
  • GST on sales: A service counts as an export when the conditions in IGST Act section 2(6) are met, including payment in convertible foreign exchange or in rupees where RBI permits. Exports are zero-rated under section 16, and registered suppliers can file an LUT under CGST Rule 96A. Since Gumroad resells as merchant of record and pays in rupees, ask your adviser how to treat these supplies. See LUT filing.
  • Income tax: Gumroad earnings are taxable in India. The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act from 1 April 2026, and the presumptive schemes under old sections 44AD and 44ADA now sit in section 58. Ask a tax adviser whether section 58 fits your product income. See 44AD vs 44ADA.

Do Gumroad payouts give you FIRA, and what purpose code applies?

  • FIRA: Gumroad's help pages do not describe a FIRA or FIRC for Indian payouts. Ask your bank for the inward remittance record and the remitter name on each credit. FIRA is a term used by banks and platforms and is not defined in the FEMA Export and Import Regulations, 2026. See FIRC vs FIRA vs e-BRC.
  • Purpose code: Gumroad's help pages do not state a purpose code. The RBI purpose code list describes P0807 as "Off site software exports" and P1099 as "Other services not included elsewhere". Software and digital downloads may fit P0807, and other digital products may not. Ask your bank which code it reports. See purpose code for software export.
  • EDF: Under Regulation 3 of the FEMA Export and Import Regulations, 2026, service exporters file an EDF within 30 days from the end of the invoice month. The EDF replaced SOFTEX from 1 October 2026 per A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 20. Ask your AD bank whether and how it applies to Gumroad payouts. See EDF form for exports.
  • Realisation: Export value must be realised within nine months, or twelve months if invoiced or settled in rupees, under Regulation 5 as amended on 22 September 2026. Gumroad's weekly payouts cover sales through the previous Friday, but a balance held under review or below your threshold is not paid. Track sale dates against that window and ask your AD bank if a balance stays unpaid for long.

Why do Gumroad withdrawals to India fail or get held?

  • Payout on hold: New accounts stay under review until Gumroad has enough sales data, and every payout day before review is skipped without an email, per Payout delays. Your balance is kept. Make 2 to 3 more genuine sales, then email Gumroad. Never buy your own product, since Gumroad says payment processors treat that as fraud.
  • Name mismatch: If Gumroad's payment partner rejects the account holder name, Gumroad emails you, per Payout delays. Change the name in Payments settings so it matches the name registered with your bank exactly. Only the email names this reason, so follow its steps.
  • Bank not accepted: A newly opened account may not be in the payment partner's records yet, and Gumroad re-checks weekly for up to 8 weeks, per Payout delays. If the partner blocks that account or cannot pay that bank, add a different account, at another bank if needed.
  • Verification incomplete: Stripe can pause payouts until identity or business verification is complete, per Payout delays. Check Payments settings for what is missing. Upload a colour JPEG or PNG of the ID, front and back for ID cards, since Getting paid by Gumroad says not to upload a PDF.
  • Country change: Changing your payout country forfeits unpaid amounts on the old country's connected account, under Section 11.4 of the Terms of Service. Wait for any payout in progress to finish, and read the amount Gumroad names before you type "I understand", per Filling out payout settings.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Gumroad creator in India get paid through Payoneer or Wise?

No. Gumroad says it does not pay creators through Payoneer or Transferwise, and a Payoneer account entered in payout settings will not receive payouts, per Payoneer, Transferwise, and Gumroad. Creators in countries with bank payouts, including India, are paid only to a local bank account in their own name.

Can an Indian Gumroad creator switch from bank payouts to PayPal payouts?

No. Gumroad offers PayPal payouts only where it cannot pay to a local bank, and India has bank payouts in INR. Gumroad's payout settings help answers "No" to switching from bank payouts to PayPal payouts. Indian creators therefore receive Gumroad earnings in rupees to an Indian bank.

Can Indian creators connect PayPal to Gumroad checkout with PayPal Connect?

No. Gumroad's PayPal Connect help lists India among the countries excluded from PayPal Connect. Buyers can still pay with PayPal where Gumroad offers it at checkout, and those sales land in your Gumroad balance. Gumroad then pays the balance to your Indian bank account with your other sales.

In which currency does Gumroad pay Indian bank accounts?

Gumroad pays Indian bank accounts in Indian rupees (INR) and cannot pay Indian creators in USD, per Getting paid by Gumroad. Gumroad converts each sale at the exchange rate on the sale date, not the payout date. Gumroad describes these rates as typically mid-market.

What is the minimum Gumroad payout for a creator in India?

The minimum Gumroad balance is US$100 for weekly, monthly and quarterly payouts, and India has no higher local minimum, per Getting paid by Gumroad. Instant payouts without that minimum are available only to US creators. You can raise your own threshold or pause payouts in Payments settings.

Do Indian Gumroad creators need to charge GST or VAT to buyers?

No for buyer-facing sales tax. Gumroad has acted as merchant of record since 1 January 2025 and collects and remits sales tax, VAT and GST on sales, per Sales tax on Gumroad. Your own Indian GST and income tax position on Gumroad payouts is separate, so check it with a tax adviser.

Does Gumroad issue Form 1099-K to creators based in India?

No. Gumroad issues Form 1099-K only to US-based accounts with more than $20,000 in gross volume and more than 200 transactions in the year, per Gumroad's 1099 help. Gumroad says those US forms are the only tax information returns it issues. Indian creators should use their payout CSVs for records.

Can buyers in India pay a Gumroad creator with UPI?

Yes. Gumroad accepts local methods such as UPI in India at checkout, depending on where the buyer is, per Getting paid by Gumroad. The buyer's payment method does not change your payout. UPI sales land in your Gumroad balance and are paid to your bank with all other sales.
