Short answer

Shopify Payments is not available in India, so store sales reach you through the third-party payment provider or PayPal account connected to your store. Shopify Partner earnings are paid out through Hyperwallet. The marketplace does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so no payout is calculated.

Who this is for: This page is for Indian Shopify store owners who sell to overseas customers, and for Indian Shopify Partners who earn from apps, themes or referrals, and want that money to reach an Indian bank account.

What withdrawal methods does Shopify support for India?

How does each Shopify withdrawal method work?

How does Third-party payment provider connected to your Shopify store work for Shopify payouts?

In Shopify admin you go to Settings, then Payments, and select Choose a provider, per Shopify help on third-party providers. You enter the provider account credentials and activate it. The provider collects the customer's payment and settles it to the bank account you verified with that provider.

  • Pros: Shopify offers over 100 credit card payment providers, and the list in your admin is filtered by your store's address; Settlement goes straight to the Indian bank account verified with the provider; Customers check out with familiar card and local payment methods
  • Cons: Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee on top of the provider's own fees; Only one credit card payment provider can be active at a time; Settlement time, conversion rate and export documents depend on the provider, not Shopify
  • Cost: Shopify charges a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, per the Shopify India pricing page. The provider charges its own processing and conversion fees, which Shopify does not publish.
  • Time: Set by the payment provider, not by Shopify. Shopify's help pages do not give a settlement time for third-party providers.
  • FIRA: Shopify's help pages do not mention a FIRA or FIRC. Ask the payment provider and your bank which inward remittance record they issue for export sales.
  • Ideal for: Indian Shopify merchants selling physical or digital goods to overseas buyers who want card payments settled to an Indian bank account.

How does PayPal Express Checkout for India work for Shopify payouts?

In Shopify admin you go to Settings, then Payments, and complete PayPal under Additional payment methods, per Shopify PayPal setup help. You link a PayPal business account and complete KYC, per Shopify's PayPal for India page.

  • Pros: Runs alongside a card payment provider as an additional payment method; Buyers can pay with their PayPal account, or with a card through the PayPal checkout; Set up from the Payments settings in Shopify admin
  • Cons: The India integration supports purchases in US dollars only; Merchants using it cannot receive domestic INR payments from other PayPal users; Refunds and manual capture need extra permissions granted in the PayPal account
  • Cost: Shopify says third-party transaction fees apply to all transactions through third-party and alternate payment gateways, and its PayPal exemption covers only stores using Shopify Payments, which India does not have, per Shopify help on third-party providers. PayPal's own fees are set by PayPal. See PayPal fees in India.
  • Time: Set by PayPal. Shopify's help pages do not give a payout time for PayPal.
  • FIRA: Shopify's help pages do not mention a FIRA or FIRC. Ask PayPal and your bank which inward remittance record is issued.
  • Ideal for: Indian stores selling to overseas buyers who already use PayPal.

How does Shopify Partner payouts through Hyperwallet work for Shopify payouts?

In the Partner Dashboard you open Settings, then Payouts, and select Manage payout method. You create a Hyperwallet account, choose your country and currency, and pick PayPal, Bank Account or Wire Transfer where offered, per Shopify help on payout methods. A bank payout must go to a real bank account, since virtual bank accounts are not supported.

  • Pros: Fixed twice-monthly payout schedule published by Shopify; Choice of PayPal, bank account or wire transfer, depending on location and currency; Conversion fee through Hyperwallet is published at 0.50%
  • Cons: Payouts start only once earnings reach $25 USD; First referral earnings carry a 30-day hold after the merchant pays its first bill; Identity verification may be needed before payouts are released; Virtual bank accounts are not accepted as a bank payout method
  • Cost: Shopify pays in USD. Converting to another currency through Hyperwallet costs 0.50% of the payout, per Shopify help on payout methods. App revenue carries Shopify's revenue share and a 2.9% processing fee, per the Shopify App Store revenue share terms.
  • Time: Shopify pays twice a month, per Shopify help on getting paid. Earnings accrued on the 1st to 10th are paid 5 business days after the 15th, the 11th to the fifth-last day 5 business days after month end, and the last 5 days 5 business days after the next month's 15th.
  • FIRA: Shopify's help pages do not mention a FIRA or FIRC. Ask your bank which inward remittance record it issues for the Hyperwallet transfer.
  • Ideal for: Indian developers and agencies selling Shopify apps, themes or services, or earning referral commissions.

How do you set up Shopify withdrawals to India?

  1. Confirm your setup: Shopify Payments is not offered in India, so an Indian store needs a third-party payment provider, as Shopify's supported countries page explains.
  2. Open an account with a payment provider that Shopify lists for India, complete its KYC, and submit and verify your Indian bank account with that provider.
  3. In Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Payments, select Choose a provider, pick the provider, enter your credentials, click Activate and then Save.
  4. To add PayPal, go to Settings, then Payments, open PayPal under Additional payment methods, link a PayPal business account and complete KYC.
  5. Grant refund and capture permissions in your PayPal account if you plan to issue refunds or capture payments manually through Shopify.
  6. Register for GST if your business needs it, add your GSTIN in Settings, then Billing, then Billing profile, and file a Letter of Undertaking so export sales can go out without paying IGST.
  7. If you are a Shopify Partner, open Settings, then Payouts, then Manage payout method in the Partner Dashboard, create a Hyperwallet account, choose your country and currency, and add bank details for a real bank account.
  8. Enter your tax information in Partner Account settings, and keep invoices and provider settlement reports so your bank can match each inward payment to a purpose code.

How much INR do you receive on $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 from Shopify?

Shopify does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so INR amounts are not calculated. The methods table above lists every fee it does publish.

What fees does Shopify charge before you withdraw?

Shopify charges Indian stores a monthly plan fee and a third-party transaction fee on each sale. The Shopify India pricing page lists that fee as 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. For example, a $100 sale on Basic costs $2 in Shopify's fee, plus provider charges.

What tax forms and TDS apply to Shopify earnings?

The Shopify help pages reviewed for this guide do not ask Indian merchants for a W-8BEN or describe tax deducted from store sales. Indian tax rules still apply to the income. Shopify charges GST on its fees to stores in India unless a GSTIN is added, per Shopify help on GST on Shopify billing.

  • W-8BEN: Shopify's pages reviewed for this guide do not name a W-8BEN for Indian merchants or Partners. The IRS says a foreign person gives Form W-8BEN to the payer when asked. Complete it only if Shopify, Hyperwallet or a payment provider requests it. See W-8BEN for Indian freelancers.
  • TDS: Shopify's help pages do not describe Indian TDS on store sales or Partner payouts. Check your payment provider's statements and the income tax portal for any tax deducted. The Income-tax Act, 2025 FAQs map old TDS provisions such as section 194C to section 393 of the new Act. See TDS on marketplace payouts.
  • GST on fees: A store located in India is charged GST on its Shopify fees, shown on its Shopify bills, per Shopify help on GST on Shopify billing. Adding a GSTIN under Settings, then Billing, then Billing profile exempts only invoices issued after you add it. Earlier GST charges cannot be reversed or refunded.
  • GST on exports: Exports of goods and services are zero-rated supplies under IGST Act section 16. A registered seller can export without paying IGST by filing a Letter of Undertaking in Form GST RFD-11 under CGST Rule 96A. See LUT filing.
  • Income tax: Shopify sales and Partner earnings are taxed in India. The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act from 1 April 2026, and the presumptive schemes under old sections 44AD and 44ADA now sit in section 58. The old sections still govern income of years before 1 April 2026. See 44AD vs 44ADA.

Do Shopify payouts give you FIRA, and what purpose code applies?

  • FIRA: Shopify does not issue a FIRA or FIRC, because the payment provider, PayPal or Hyperwallet moves the money to your bank. Ask them and your bank for the inward remittance record. FIRA is a term used by banks and platforms and is not defined in the FEMA Export and Import Regulations, 2026. See FIRC vs FIRA vs e-BRC.
  • Store sales: Goods sold through a Shopify store fall in RBI's export of goods group. The RBI purpose code list describes P0103 as "Advance receipts against export contracts (export of goods only)" and P0104 as "Receipts against export of goods not covered by the GR/PP/SOFTEX/EC copy of shipping bill etc." Ask your AD bank which code applies. See purpose code for export of goods.
  • Partner earnings: App and theme earnings are software or services receipts. The RBI purpose code list describes P0807 as "Off site software exports" and P0802 as "Software consultancy/implementation (other than those covered in SOFTEX form)". Referral commissions may need a different code. Confirm the code with your AD bank. See P0807 purpose code.
  • EDF and realisation: From 1 October 2026 the EDF replaces SOFTEX, per A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 20. Goods exporters file the EDF at export, and services exporters within 30 days of the invoice month end, under the 2026 regulations. Realisation is due in nine months, or twelve if invoiced in rupees, per the 22 September 2026 amendment. See EDF form for exports.

Why do Shopify withdrawals to India fail or get held?

  • Provider not active: A provider may need you to submit and verify your bank account before your store can complete transactions, per Shopify help on third-party providers. Only the store owner can add a provider. Finish the provider's KYC, then activate it again from Settings, then Payments.
  • PayPal INR blocked: Merchants using PayPal Express Checkout in India cannot receive domestic INR payments from other PayPal users, and the integration supports purchases in USD, per Shopify's PayPal for India page. Price PayPal orders in US dollars and use your card provider for domestic buyers.
  • Partner payout held: Hyperwallet holds or fails a payout above the method's limit. General limits are $100K for PayPal, $500K for Bank Account and $5M for Wire Transfer, and some countries and currencies have lower limits, per Shopify help on payout methods. Shopify then emails you to change the payout method.
  • Failed payout: Shopify says a failed Partner payout can be retried after you verify your payment details and the transaction limits, per Shopify help on managing payouts. Hyperwallet also holds payouts when payout method details are incorrect. If a payout keeps failing, check with your bank before contacting Shopify Support.
  • Below minimum: Shopify pays Partners only once earnings reach $25 USD, and first referral earnings carry a 30-day hold after the merchant pays its first bill, per Shopify help on getting paid. Earnings below the minimum carry forward to a later payout date.
