Argentine businesses pay foreign suppliers by buying foreign currency in the MLC under BCRA rules. BCRA rules issued in April 2025 let imports of services be paid through the MLC from the time the service is rendered. Payments to India therefore usually arrive in US dollars by SWIFT, which your AD bank converts to INR.
How has the ARS to INR rate moved?
A rate history is not shown for ARS because the European Central Bank does not publish a ARS reference rate, and this page does not mix sources in one chart. The Argentine peso floats within a moving band in the Free Foreign Exchange Market (MLC). The Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) set up this band regime in April 2025, with floor and ceiling limits that widen over time. BCRA's June 2026 Monetary Policy Report describes the current regime as floating between bands.

Why does your bank give you less than the ARS to INR rate on Google?
Indian banks do not usually trade the Argentine peso against the rupee. Most Argentine payments reach India in US dollars, so your rupee amount depends on the USD/INR rate your AD bank pays. Any peso to dollar conversion happens in Argentina at the payer's bank, under its own spread.
Say a bank converts ARS 7,700,000 at a TT buying rate 1.5% below the mid-market rate of ₹0.06119. It credits about ₹4,64,129 instead of ₹4,71,197, a difference of ₹7,068 before any fees. The 1.5% is an illustration, not a quote from any bank.
Search engines show the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices. A card rate is a bank's own rate for card transactions, and a TT buying rate is the rate a bank pays when it buys foreign currency received by wire. Both sit below the mid-market rate.
What moves the ARS to INR rate?
The Argentine peso floats within a moving band in the Free Foreign Exchange Market (MLC). The Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) set up this band regime in April 2025, with floor and ceiling limits that widen over time. BCRA's June 2026 Monetary Policy Report describes the current regime as floating between bands.
- Band limits: Under the BCRA band regime, the peso floats between a floor and a ceiling. BCRA buys dollars at the floor, sells at the ceiling, and may also buy dollars within the band to build reserves.
- Inflation: Argentina has a long history of high inflation. Monthly inflation data shape expectations for the peso and for future band adjustments.
- Reserves: BCRA's stock of foreign currency reserves affects confidence in the peso. Its June 2026 Monetary Policy Report records large BCRA purchases of dollars in the exchange market during 2026.
- Capital controls: Rules on who may buy dollars in the MLC, and when, affect demand for pesos. BCRA relaxed these rules for individuals and trade payments in April 2025.
- Farm exports: Argentina earns a large share of its dollars from grain and oilseed exports. Harvest size and crop prices change dollar supply in the MLC.
When should exporters convert ARS to INR?
For ARS, timing choices apply mainly to the US dollars your client sends. ARS/INR forwards are generally not available in India, so exporters hedge the USD/INR leg if they hedge at all. Spot conversion on arrival is the common approach. EEFC accounts are typically held in dollars rather than pesos.
- Spot: A spot conversion uses the USD/INR rate your AD bank quotes on the day the dollars are converted. The peso rate matters only to your Argentine client.
- Forward: RBI's Master Direction on Risk Management and Inter-Bank Dealings lets AD banks offer forward contracts to hedge a contracted or anticipated exposure. The contract's amount and tenor cannot exceed those of the exposure. For Argentine clients who pay in US dollars, a USD/INR forward can cover the exposure.
- Limit order: Some AD banks accept a USD/INR target rate and convert when the market reaches it. Ask your bank whether it offers this for incoming payments.
- EEFC holding: You can credit up to 100% of export earnings to an EEFC account and convert later. RBI requires each month's accruals to be converted to rupees by the last day of the following month, after approved uses or forward commitments. For Argentine receipts, the account would normally be held in US dollars.
How do you get the best ARS to INR rate?
- Invoice currency: Invoicing Argentine clients in US dollars keeps the peso conversion in Argentina and leaves you one USD/INR conversion in India.
- Payment terms: Under BCRA rules, Argentine importers of services may pay through the MLC once the service is rendered. Clear delivery dates on your invoice help your client access the MLC on time.
- Mid-market check: Compare the USD/INR rate you receive with the mid-market rate on the same day. The difference is your bank's spread.
- Payer charges: Ask your client to confirm who pays SWIFT and correspondent charges. Fees deducted in transit reduce the amount reaching India.
- Bank quote: Ask your AD bank for its card rate and its negotiated rate. Larger amounts often qualify for a narrower spread.

How do we source and check these rates?
- Feed: ExchangeRate-API open access feed, published once a day. The page refreshes at most hourly.
- Markup: Markup is the gap between a platform's rate and the mid-market rate, taken from each platform's own published pricing. GST of 18% applies to fees where the platform says so.
- Stale data: If the feed fails, the page shows no rate and pauses the calculator rather than showing an old rate as current.
- Method: The full formula is on the methodology page.

Frequently asked questions
Can I receive ARS in India and convert it to INR?
Argentine pesos are rarely sent abroad for conversion, and Indian banks generally do not quote ARS/INR. Argentine clients usually buy US dollars in Argentina's Free Foreign Exchange Market and send them by SWIFT. Check with your AD bank, then invoice in a currency it can receive and convert.
Why does the ARS to INR rate shown online differ from what I receive?
Online ARS to INR rates are cross rates built from the peso's dollar rate and USD/INR. Your actual rupee amount depends on the dollars your client sends and the USD/INR rate your AD bank pays. Fees deducted by intermediary banks can lower the final amount further.
Is the ARS exchange rate against INR set by Argentina's central bank?
The BCRA does not set an ARS/INR rate. Since April 2025, the BCRA band regime lets the peso float against the dollar between a floor and a ceiling that widen over time. The ARS to INR rate comes from combining that dollar rate with USD/INR.
Can my Argentine client pay for services in ARS converted to INR?
Your client can buy foreign currency in the MLC to pay for imported services. Under the April 2025 BCRA measures, services may be paid from the time they are rendered, or after 90 days between related companies. The client normally sends US dollars, which your AD bank converts to INR at its rate on the day.
Can I hedge ARS to INR with a forward contract in India?
RBI lets AD banks offer deliverable forwards involving INR to hedge exposures, under the RBI Master Direction on risk management. ARS/INR forwards are generally not quoted by Indian banks. Exporters who invoice Argentine clients in US dollars can hedge the USD/INR leg with their AD bank.
Why do ARS to INR rates change so much over a year?
Argentina has had high inflation, and the peso has lost value against the dollar for long periods. Under the BCRA band regime, the band limits themselves widen over time. Moves in USD/INR add a second layer of change to the ARS to INR cross rate.
