Bangladesh is an Asian Clearing Union member. Under Regulation 3(2)(I)(a)(ii), trade payments from Bangladesh go through the ACU mechanism or as RBI directs. ACU settlement uses the ACU Dollar, ACU Euro or ACU Yen, equal in value to the USD, EUR and JPY. When you are paid in ACU Dollars, the taka is converted on the buyer's side.

How has the BDT to INR rate moved?

A rate history is not shown for BDT because the European Central Bank does not publish a BDT reference rate, and this page does not mix sources in one chart. The Bangladeshi taka is managed by Bangladesh Bank. According to the IMF 2025 Article IV report of January 2026, Bangladesh Bank introduced a crawling peg with a band in mid-May 2025, allowed freely quoted rates and committed to auction-based interventions. The IMF noted the bank used dollar purchases to hold the rate within a narrow range.

How much INR do you get on BDT 250,000, 620,000 and 1,200,000?

Each row applies the platform's published fee, FX markup and 18% GST on the fee to the mid-market rate of ₹0.7617 for 4 Nov 2026.

Why does your bank give you less than the BDT to INR rate on Google?

When a Bangladesh payment is settled in ACU Dollars, the taka does not reach your bank. The buyer's bank converts taka to ACU Dollars, and your AD bank converts those to rupees at its USD-INR margin. If a taka amount is converted, direct BDT-INR trading is thin and banks usually price it through the US dollar.

Say a bank converts BDT 620,000 at a TT buying rate 1.5% below the mid-market rate of ₹0.7617. It credits about ₹4,65,194 instead of ₹4,72,278, a difference of ₹7,084 before any fees. The 1.5% is an illustration, not a quote from any bank.

Search engines show the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices. A card rate is a bank's own rate for card transactions, and a TT buying rate is the rate a bank pays when it buys foreign currency received by wire. Both sit below the mid-market rate.

What moves the BDT to INR rate?

The Bangladeshi taka is managed by Bangladesh Bank. According to the IMF 2025 Article IV report of January 2026, Bangladesh Bank introduced a crawling peg with a band in mid-May 2025, allowed freely quoted rates and committed to auction-based interventions. The IMF noted the bank used dollar purchases to hold the rate within a narrow range.

  • Exchange regime: Bangladesh Bank's crawling peg with a band, introduced in May 2025, sets how far the taka can move. The IMF reported in January 2026 that the bank had bought over US$2 billion since July 2025 and used these purchases to keep the rate in a narrow range.
  • Interest rates: Bangladesh Bank raised its policy rate between September 2023 and October 2024, according to the IMF. Tighter policy supports the taka by curbing inflation.
  • FX reserves: The IMF notes reserve buffers have yet to fully recover earlier losses. Reserve levels shape how much room Bangladesh Bank has to manage the rate.
  • RBI action: On the rupee side, the USD-INR rate and RBI intervention move the BDT-INR cross, and they set the rupee value of ACU Dollar receipts.
  • External financing: The IMF says donor and IMF financing helped reverse reserve losses, so the timing of these flows can affect the taka.

When should exporters convert BDT to INR?

For payments from Bangladesh, timing mostly depends on USD-INR, when receipts arrive in ACU Dollars. Spot converts on the day of credit. A USD-INR forward can lock the rupee value of an ACU Dollar invoice. A limit order waits for a target rate. An EEFC account can hold the dollars briefly.

  • Spot: Converts the ACU Dollar credit at the bank's USD-INR rate on the day it arrives.
  • Forward: RBI's Master Direction on Risk Management and Inter-Bank Dealings lets AD banks offer forward contracts to hedge a contracted or anticipated exposure. The contract's amount and tenor cannot exceed those of the exposure. Exchange-traded rupee pairs under paragraph 3.2 do not include BDT, so ask your AD bank whether it quotes a BDT-INR forward at all. For ACU Dollar invoices, a USD-INR forward is the relevant hedge.
  • Limit order: Some banks let you set a target USD-INR rate and convert automatically when it is reached. Ask whether this works for ACU receipts.
  • EEFC holding: You can credit up to 100% of export earnings to an EEFC account and convert later. RBI requires each month's accruals to be converted to rupees by the last day of the following month, after approved uses or forward commitments. Ask your AD bank how it credits ACU Dollar receipts to an EEFC account.

How do you get the best BDT to INR rate?

  • Invoice in ACU: Invoice Bangladesh buyers in ACU Dollars, the unit the ACU settlement circular sets equal to one US dollar, so you face one USD-INR conversion.
  • Watch USD-INR: Since the taka leg sits with the buyer, track the USD-INR mid-market rate and compare it with your bank's rate on the day of credit.
  • Ask for ACU routing: Ask your AD bank to confirm its ACU process and charges before you share bank details with the buyer.
  • Hedge early: For large or recurring invoices, a USD-INR forward booked against the invoice fixes the rupee value before payment arrives.

How do we source and check these rates?

  • Feed: ExchangeRate-API open access feed, published once a day. The page refreshes at most hourly.
  • Markup: Markup is the gap between a platform's rate and the mid-market rate, taken from each platform's own published pricing. GST of 18% applies to fees where the platform says so.
  • Stale data: If the feed fails, the page shows no rate and pauses the calculator rather than showing an old rate as current.
  • Method: The full formula is on the methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

Do Bangladesh clients pay Indian exporters in BDT or INR?

Payments under the ACU are not made in either. Bangladesh is an ACU member, so under Regulation 3(2)(I)(a)(ii) trade payments go through the ACU mechanism or as RBI directs. ACU payments are in ACU Dollar, ACU Euro or ACU Yen. Your AD bank converts ACU Dollars to INR at its USD-INR rate.

What is an ACU Dollar when converting BDT to INR?

The ACU Dollar is the Asian Clearing Union's accounting unit, equal in value to one US dollar under RBI's 2020 ACU circular. A Bangladeshi buyer's bank converts taka into ACU Dollars. Your Indian bank converts the ACU Dollars into rupees. The rate that matters to you is effectively USD-INR.

Is the BDT exchange rate set by Bangladesh Bank?

Partly. The IMF 2025 Article IV report, published in January 2026, says Bangladesh Bank moved to a crawling peg with a band in May 2025 and allowed freely quoted rates. The IMF adds that the bank used dollar purchases to hold the taka in a narrow range. The BDT to INR rate is a cross through the US dollar.

Can I book a BDT to INR forward contract in India?

RBI rules let AD banks offer rupee forwards to hedge real export exposure under the Master Direction on Risk Management. BDT is not an exchange-traded rupee pair, so ask your AD bank whether it quotes a taka forward at all. For receipts in ACU Dollars, a USD-INR forward is the practical hedge.

Why does the BDT to INR rate matter if I am paid in ACU Dollars?

The BDT to INR rate shows how expensive your service is for the Bangladeshi buyer in taka. A weaker taka raises the buyer's cost of a fixed ACU Dollar invoice. Your own rupee receipt depends on the USD-INR rate on the day your bank converts the ACU Dollars.

Can ACU Dollar receipts from Bangladesh go into an EEFC account before INR conversion?

An EEFC account can hold export earnings in foreign currency, without interest, under para 3.1 of the RBI Master Direction on Deposits and Accounts. A month's credits must be converted by the end of the next month unless used for approved purposes. Ask your AD bank how it credits ACU receipts to EEFC.
