The reference rate feed is unavailable right now. The calculator is paused rather than showing an old rate as current.

Which platform gives the best CNY to INR rate today?

No platform covered here publishes full pricing for CNY, so the table lists the platforms whose own pages say they accept CNY, without a ranking. Fees were checked on 30 Sept 2026.

Chinese buyers can pay Indian exporters by SWIFT transfer, in US dollars or yuan as the contract states. China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange sets trade payment rules, so the payer's bank may ask for the contract or invoice. China is outside the Asian Clearing Union, so RBI rules allow receipt in any foreign currency.

How has the CNY to INR rate moved?

A rate history is not shown for CNY because the European Central Bank does not publish a CNY reference rate, and this page does not mix sources in one chart. The Chinese yuan (renminbi) follows a managed floating exchange rate regime based on market supply and demand with reference to a basket of currencies, run by the People's Bank of China. The PBOC publishes a USD/CNY fixing rate daily. Because the regime is managed, the yuan does not float freely.

How much INR do you get on CNY 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000?

The rate feed is unavailable, so amounts are not shown.

Why does your bank give you less than the CNY to INR rate on Google?

CNY/INR has no futures market on Indian exchanges, since RBI's risk management directions allow only USD, EUR, GBP and JPY against INR there. Banks may price CNY/INR through the US dollar, combining two quotes, so the margin can be wider than for USD/INR. Invoicing in USD or CNY changes who bears that cost.

Search engines show the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices. A card rate is a bank's own rate for card transactions, and a TT buying rate is the rate a bank pays when it buys foreign currency received by wire. Both sit below the mid-market rate.

What moves the CNY to INR rate?

The Chinese yuan (renminbi) follows a managed floating exchange rate regime based on market supply and demand with reference to a basket of currencies, run by the People's Bank of China. The PBOC publishes a USD/CNY fixing rate daily. Because the regime is managed, the yuan does not float freely.

  • Daily fixing: The PBOC publishes a daily USD/CNY fixing as the official reference for the yuan. Markets watch changes in the fixing as a guide to the yuan's direction.
  • Interest rates: The People's Bank of China adjusts liquidity and rates through open market operations such as reverse repos. Easing in China relative to India tends to weigh on CNY/INR.
  • Capital controls: China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange regulates cross-border receipts and payments. Changes to these rules affect how freely money moves in and out, and so the yuan's value.
  • Trade balance: China's export earnings create steady demand for yuan. Shifts in global demand for Chinese goods, or tariffs on them, can move the yuan against the US dollar and through that against the rupee.
  • USD/INR: Because CNY/INR is often derived through the US dollar, a move in USD/INR can pass directly into CNY/INR even when USD/CNY is steady.

When should exporters convert CNY to INR?

Indian exporters receiving CNY can convert at spot, ask for a bank forward, place a target-rate order or hold yuan in an EEFC account. Spot is simplest because fewer AD banks may quote CNY/INR forwards than USD/INR, and no INR futures exist for the yuan. Holding CNY in EEFC delays conversion only until the end of the following month.

  • Spot: Your AD bank converts the yuan at its current rate when the payment is credited. This is the usual route for CNY receipts.
  • Forward: RBI's Master Direction on Risk Management and Inter-Bank Dealings lets AD banks offer forwards involving INR to retail users for hedging. Users can hedge contracted exposure up to USD 100 million equivalent across all AD banks without establishing the underlying, though a valid unhedged exposure must exist, and may freely cancel and rebook. Not every AD bank quotes CNY/INR forwards; check with your AD bank, or consider invoicing in USD if hedging matters.
  • Limit order: Some AD banks accept an order to convert when a target rate is reached. Check with your AD bank whether this covers CNY.
  • EEFC holding: RBI's Master Direction on Deposits and Accounts lets you credit 100% of foreign exchange earnings to an EEFC account. The account pays no interest. Each month's accruals must be converted to rupees by the end of the next month, after adjusting for approved uses or forward commitments.

How do you get the best CNY to INR rate?

  • Invoice currency: Agree the invoice currency before work starts. A USD invoice moves the yuan conversion to the buyer's side; a CNY invoice puts it on yours.
  • Compare mid-market: Check your AD bank's CNY/INR rate against the live mid-market rate on this page when converting. The gap is the bank's margin.
  • Ask how it is priced: Ask your AD bank whether it quotes CNY/INR directly or through USD. A cross quote can carry two margins.
  • Documents ready: Send the buyer a clear invoice and contract. Banks in China handle trade payments under SAFE rules, and missing papers can delay the remittance.

How do we source and check these rates?

  • Feed: The rate feed is unavailable right now.
  • Markup: Markup is the gap between a platform's rate and the mid-market rate, taken from each platform's own published pricing. GST of 18% applies to fees where the platform says so.
  • Stale data: If the feed fails, the page shows no rate and pauses the calculator rather than showing an old rate as current.
  • Method: The full formula is on the methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between CNY and CNH for an INR conversion?

CNY is the yuan traded onshore in mainland China under the PBOC's managed floating regime. CNH is the same currency traded outside mainland China, and its rate can differ slightly from CNY. Your AD bank quotes one of them when converting to INR, so ask which rate it uses.

Can a Chinese client pay an Indian exporter in CNY instead of USD to save on INR conversion?

Yes, if both banks support yuan transfers and the contract says CNY. The client then avoids converting yuan to dollars. Your AD bank converts CNY to INR, or you can hold it in an EEFC account where offered. Check with your AD bank that it accepts CNY credits.

Are CNY-INR currency futures traded on Indian stock exchanges?

No. RBI's risk management directions allow exchange-traded INR pairs only against USD, EUR, GBP and JPY. Exporters wanting to hedge CNY receipts need an over-the-counter forward from an AD bank, which not every bank quotes. Invoicing in USD and hedging USD/INR is an alternative some exporters use.

Why does the CNY to INR rate move when the People's Bank of China sets its daily fixing?

The PBOC publishes a daily USD/CNY fixing as the official reference for the yuan. A weaker or stronger fixing can move USD/CNY. Since CNY/INR is often calculated through the US dollar, that change can flow into the rupee rate you are quoted on the same day.

Can an Indian freelancer hold CNY in an EEFC account before converting to INR?

Yes, where the AD bank offers yuan accounts. RBI's Master Direction on Deposits and Accounts allows 100% of foreign exchange earnings in EEFC. The account pays no interest. Each month's accruals must be converted to rupees by the end of the next month, after adjusting for approved uses or forward commitments.

Does a CNY receipt into India need FIRC or a purpose code for INR credit?

Yes. Your AD bank asks for a purpose code, from the RBI purpose code list, for each inward foreign exchange remittance, whatever the currency. Exporters often ask the bank for an inward remittance certificate or advice as proof of export receipt for GST and tax records. Check with your AD bank on the format it issues.
