Payments from Egypt usually reach Indian exporters by SWIFT, in US dollars, euros or another agreed currency. FEMA allows receipts from non-ACU countries such as Egypt in rupees or any foreign currency under Regulation 3(2)(I)(a)(iii). Your AD bank may not handle Egyptian pound credits, so check with it before invoicing in EGP.
How has the EGP to INR rate moved?
A rate history is not shown for EGP because the European Central Bank does not publish a EGP reference rate, and this page does not mix sources in one chart. In its 6 March 2024 statement, the Central Bank of Egypt said it would target inflation as its nominal anchor and allow the exchange rate to be determined by market forces. It said unifying the exchange rate would close the spread between the official and parallel markets. The CBE publishes a daily weighted average rate.
How much INR do you get on EGP 110,000, 280,000 and 550,000?
Each row applies the platform's published fee, FX markup and 18% GST on the fee to the mid-market rate of ₹1.713 for 4 Nov 2026.
| Platform and invoice | Fee | FX markup | GST | INR received | Cost | Best for |

Why does your bank give you less than the EGP to INR rate on Google?
Direct EGP-INR trading is very thin, so a bank converting pounds usually goes through the US dollar. That means one spread on EGP-USD and a second on USD-INR. The pound has also seen sharp moves, as in March 2024, and banks may widen margins when the rate is volatile. SWIFT intermediary charges can reduce the amount further.
Say a bank converts EGP 280,000 at a TT buying rate 1.5% below the mid-market rate of ₹1.713. It credits about ₹4,72,368 instead of ₹4,79,561, a difference of ₹7,193 before any fees. The 1.5% is an illustration, not a quote from any bank.
Search engines show the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices. A card rate is a bank's own rate for card transactions, and a TT buying rate is the rate a bank pays when it buys foreign currency received by wire. Both sit below the mid-market rate.
What moves the EGP to INR rate?
In its 6 March 2024 statement, the Central Bank of Egypt said it would target inflation as its nominal anchor and allow the exchange rate to be determined by market forces. It said unifying the exchange rate would close the spread between the official and parallel markets. The CBE publishes a daily weighted average rate.
- Interest rates: The Central Bank of Egypt Monetary Policy Committee sets the overnight deposit rate, the overnight lending rate and the rate of the main operation. Large changes, such as the 600 basis point rise in its 6 March 2024 decision, can shift demand for pound assets.
- FX liquidity: The CBE said foreign exchange shortages had created a parallel market before March 2024. Dollar availability inside Egypt can therefore affect the pound.
- Commodity prices: The CBE names expected volatility in international commodity markets as an upside risk to inflation. Higher import costs can also raise demand for foreign currency.
- Geopolitics: The CBE lists regional geopolitical tensions as an upside risk to inflation. Such tensions can also affect the pound through capital flows.
- RBI action: On the rupee side, the USD-INR rate and RBI intervention move the EGP-INR cross even when the pound is steady against the dollar.
When should exporters convert EGP to INR?
For EGP to INR, spot conversion is the main option, since pound forwards against the rupee are hard to find in India. Spot converts on the day of credit. A limit order waits for a target rate. An EEFC account can hold receipts briefly. Invoicing in USD and hedging USD-INR is the more common route.
- Spot: Converts the receipt at the bank's rate on the day it is credited. A USD or EUR receipt is converted at the bank's rate for that currency.
- Forward: RBI's Master Direction on Risk Management and Inter-Bank Dealings lets AD banks offer forward contracts to hedge a contracted or anticipated exposure. The contract's amount and tenor cannot exceed those of the exposure. Exchange-traded rupee pairs under paragraph 3.2 do not include EGP, so ask your AD bank whether it quotes a EGP-INR forward at all.
- Limit order: Some banks and providers let you set a target rate and convert automatically. Check whether the facility covers EGP, since many cover only major currencies.
- EEFC holding: You can credit up to 100% of export earnings to an EEFC account and convert later. RBI requires each month's accruals to be converted to rupees by the last day of the following month, after approved uses or forward commitments. Check whether your AD bank holds balances in Egyptian pounds.
How do you get the best EGP to INR rate?
- Invoice currency: Agree the invoice currency with the Egyptian buyer in advance. A USD or EUR invoice moves the pound conversion to the buyer's side.
- Check the anchor: Compare the rate offered with the CBE published market rate and the USD-INR mid-market rate on the same day to see the full spread.
- Volatile days: Avoid converting large sums right after a central bank announcement, when spreads are often wider.
- Charges: Ask the buyer to pay SWIFT charges under the OUR option, so intermediary fees are not deducted from your amount.
- Ask your bank: Ask your AD bank in writing whether it accepts EGP credits and which margin applies on each leg of the conversion.

How do we source and check these rates?
- Feed: ExchangeRate-API open access feed, published once a day. The page refreshes at most hourly.
- Markup: Markup is the gap between a platform's rate and the mid-market rate, taken from each platform's own published pricing. GST of 18% applies to fees where the platform says so.
- Stale data: If the feed fails, the page shows no rate and pauses the calculator rather than showing an old rate as current.
- Method: The full formula is on the methodology page.

Frequently asked questions
Is the EGP to INR rate fixed by the Central Bank of Egypt?
No. Since its 6 March 2024 decision, the Central Bank of Egypt has allowed the pound's exchange rate to be determined by market forces. The CBE publishes a daily weighted average rate against the dollar. The EGP to INR figure is a cross rate built from both currencies' rates against the US dollar.
Can an Indian exporter invoice an Egyptian client in EGP?
FEMA allows receipts from non-ACU countries, including Egypt, in rupees or any foreign currency under Regulation 3(2)(I)(a)(iii). Whether a pound payment can be credited depends on your AD bank, so confirm before you send an EGP invoice. Invoicing in US dollars or euros avoids that question.
What changed for the EGP to INR rate in March 2024?
On 6 March 2024 the Central Bank of Egypt said it would allow the exchange rate to be determined by market forces and raised its key rates by 600 basis points. It said unifying the rate would close the spread between the official and parallel markets. Since then, EGP to INR has followed the market-determined pound.
Can I hedge EGP to INR with a forward contract?
RBI rules permit rupee forwards to hedge a real export exposure under the Master Direction on Risk Management. EGP is not an exchange-traded rupee pair, so ask your AD bank whether it quotes a pound forward against the rupee. Invoicing in USD and booking a USD-INR forward is the more practical route.
What interest rates affect the EGP to INR exchange rate?
On Egypt's side, the Central Bank of Egypt sets the overnight deposit rate, overnight lending rate and the rate of the main operation through its Monetary Policy Committee. On India's side, RBI's repo rate and the USD-INR rate matter. The gap between the two rate levels shapes capital flows.
Can EGP receipts be held in an EEFC account in India?
An EEFC account holds export earnings in foreign currency, without interest, under para 3.1 of the RBI Master Direction on Deposits and Accounts. A month's credits must be converted by the end of the next month unless used for approved purposes. Ask your AD bank whether it maintains balances in Egyptian pounds.
