Indian exporters usually receive QAR by SWIFT transfer to an Indian AD bank, and a Qatari client can also pay in US dollars. Ask your AD bank whether it credits QAR or converts on arrival. Under an RBI circular of April 2026 effective October 2026, banks should aim to credit payments received during forex market hours the same business day.
How has the QAR to INR rate moved?
A rate history is not shown for QAR because the European Central Bank does not publish a QAR reference rate, and this page does not mix sources in one chart. The Qatari riyal is fixed at QR 3.64 per US dollar. The Qatar Central Bank describes this fixed parity as the formal framework of its exchange rate policy, inherited from the Qatar Monetary Agency when QCB was set up in 1993. Its monetary policy aims to keep the riyal stable against the dollar.

Why does your bank give you less than the QAR to INR rate on Google?
Because the riyal's US dollar rate is fixed at 3.64, QAR/INR moves almost entirely with USD/INR. QAR is less widely traded than the US dollar, so a bank may price it through US dollars, and two conversion margins can apply. Ask your AD bank how it prices QAR/INR and compare with the mid-market rate.
Say a bank converts QAR 5,000 at a TT buying rate 1.5% below the mid-market rate of ₹26.00. It credits about ₹1,28,028 instead of ₹1,29,978, a difference of ₹1,950 before any fees. The 1.5% is an illustration, not a quote from any bank.
Search engines show the mid-market rate, the midpoint between buying and selling prices. A card rate is a bank's own rate for card transactions, and a TT buying rate is the rate a bank pays when it buys foreign currency received by wire. Both sit below the mid-market rate.
What moves the QAR to INR rate?
The Qatari riyal is fixed at QR 3.64 per US dollar. The Qatar Central Bank describes this fixed parity as the formal framework of its exchange rate policy, inherited from the Qatar Monetary Agency when QCB was set up in 1993. Its monetary policy aims to keep the riyal stable against the dollar.
- Interest rates: QCB's Monetary Policy Committee meets every six weeks and monitors Qatari riyal rates against the US Federal Funds Rate. Its policy rates are the QCB deposit rate, lending rate and repo rate. India's policy rate is the RBI policy repo rate.
- RBI action: The RBI says it aims for orderly adjustment of the rupee and curbs excessive volatility (Governor's statement, October 7, 2026). Because the riyal is fixed to the US dollar, RBI action on USD/INR passes straight through to QAR/INR.
- Oil prices: The RBI Governor said on October 7, 2026 that elevated energy prices pose upside risks to India's current account deficit. A wider deficit can weigh on the rupee against the US dollar, and so against the Qatari riyal.
- Risk sentiment: The same RBI statement said renewed conflict in West Asia in September 2026 raised financial market volatility. Any resulting move in USD/INR shows up in QAR/INR.
When should exporters convert QAR to INR?
For QAR, converting at spot through your AD bank is the default. RBI rules allow forwards involving INR for hedging, but India's exchange-traded currency futures do not cover QAR, so a hedge would usually be a forward agreed with your bank. An EEFC account can hold QAR for a short time, subject to RBI's monthly conversion rule.
- Spot: Your AD bank converts the QAR on the day it is credited, at that day's TT buying rate. This suits invoices you need in rupees straight away.
- Forward: RBI's Master Direction on Risk Management and Inter-Bank Dealings lets AD banks offer forward contracts to hedge a contracted or anticipated exposure. The contract's amount and tenor cannot exceed those of the exposure. India's exchange-traded currency futures do not cover QAR, so ask your AD bank whether it quotes QAR/INR forwards.
- Limit order: Some banks accept an instruction to convert when QAR to INR reaches a target rate. Ask your AD bank whether it offers this and what it charges. With a fixed peg, your target is in effect a USD/INR level.
- EEFC holding: You can credit up to 100% of export earnings to an EEFC account and convert later. RBI requires each month's accruals to be converted to rupees by the last day of the following month, after approved uses or forward commitments. Check whether your bank offers EEFC in QAR.
How do you get the best QAR to INR rate?
- Check mid-market: Compare the QAR/INR rate your bank quotes with the live mid-market rate on this page before you accept a conversion.
- Ask about routing: Ask whether your AD bank converts QAR directly to INR or through US dollars, since each conversion can carry a margin.
- Invoice currency: Agree the invoice currency with your client upfront. Because QAR is fixed to the US dollar, invoicing in either currency carries similar rupee risk.
- Fewer transfers: Fixed fees per transfer weigh more on small payments, so fewer and larger transfers can lower your total cost.
- Timing of arrival: From October 2026, banks should aim to credit payments that reach them during forex market hours the same business day, under the RBI circular.

How do we source and check these rates?
- Feed: XE live mid-market rates, published live; this site refreshes it every 15 minutes. The page refreshes at most hourly.
- Markup: Markup is the gap between a platform's rate and the mid-market rate, taken from each platform's own published pricing. GST of 18% applies to fees where the platform says so.
- Stale data: If the feed fails, the page shows no rate and pauses the calculator rather than showing an old rate as current.
- Method: The full formula is on the methodology page.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the QAR to INR rate follow the USD to INR rate so closely?
The QAR to INR rate follows USD to INR because the Qatar Central Bank keeps a fixed parity of QR 3.64 per US dollar. With that rate held steady, almost every change in QAR to INR comes from the rupee moving against the US dollar.
Can an exporter hedge a QAR to INR receivable with a forward contract?
Yes, RBI rules let AD banks offer forwards involving INR to hedge contracted or anticipated exposures, under the Master Direction - Risk Management and Inter-Bank Dealings. Indian exchange-traded currency futures do not include QAR. Ask your AD bank whether it quotes QAR to INR forwards directly and on what terms.
Can I hold QAR in an EEFC account instead of converting to INR at once?
Yes, if your bank offers EEFC accounts in QAR. Under the RBI Master Direction - Deposits and Accounts, you can credit 100 percent of export earnings to EEFC. The account pays no interest. Each month's accruals must be converted to INR by the end of the following month, after approved uses.
How quickly is a QAR payment credited in INR to an Indian bank account?
Timing depends on the sending bank and any intermediary banks. Under an RBI circular of April 2026 effective October 2026, banks should aim to credit payments received during forex market hours the same business day, and payments arriving after market hours on the next business day.
How does the Qatar Central Bank set interest rates, and does that move QAR to INR?
QCB's Monetary Policy Committee meets every six weeks and tracks the US Federal Funds Rate, according to QCB. Its rates support the fixed parity of 3.64 per US dollar. So changes in QAR to INR come from USD to INR.
Should a Qatari client pay in QAR or USD if the exporter wants INR?
With the riyal fixed to the US dollar, both currencies carry similar rupee risk. The difference is usually in conversion cost. Ask your AD bank whether it converts QAR directly to INR or through US dollars, and compare the rupee amount for each option before agreeing the invoice currency.
