Estimates the RoDTEP benefit on a shipment from the FOB value, the notified rate and any per-unit value cap.
Benefit at the rate
₹10,000
Estimated benefit
₹10,000
The rate and any cap depend on the tariff line and change by notification. Look them up in the current official schedule for your product before relying on the figure.
What does the RoDTEP Benefit Calculator calculate?
| Item | Type | What it means | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| FOB value | Input | Free on board value of the shipment in rupees, as on the shipping bill | Goods exporters with a shipping bill |
| RoDTEP rate (%) | Input | The percentage listed against the tariff item in the DGFT rate schedule | Exporters who have looked up their HS code in the schedule |
| Per-unit value cap | Input | Optional rupee cap per unit, entered only if the schedule lists one for the item | Exporters of items with a capped rate |
| Quantity | Input | Number of units shipped, used only when a cap applies | Exporters of items with a capped rate |
| Uncapped benefit | Output | FOB value multiplied by the rate | Exporters with no cap on the item |
| Capped benefit | Output | The lower of the uncapped benefit and cap per unit multiplied by quantity | Exporters of capped items |
| Effective rate | Output | Benefit divided by FOB value, shown as a percentage | Exporters checking pricing margins |
How is the RoDTEP Benefit calculation done?
The RoDTEP benefit calculator multiplies the FOB value of the shipment by the rate in the official RoDTEP schedule. If the schedule lists a value cap per unit for the item, the calculator compares the result with the cap multiplied by quantity and returns the lower figure. Users enter the rate themselves.
Benefit = FOB value x RoDTEP rate; if a cap applies, Benefit = lower of (FOB value x rate) and (cap per unit x quantity)
For example, with an FOB value of Rs 10,00,000 and an example rate of 1.5 percent, the uncapped benefit is Rs 15,000. If an example cap of Rs 100 per unit applies and 100 units are shipped, the cap gives Rs 10,000, so the benefit is Rs 10,000.
How do you use the RoDTEP Benefit Calculator?
- Find the 8-digit tariff item for the goods and open the current RoDTEP rate schedule on the DGFT website.
- Note the rate for that item and any value cap or condition printed against it.
- Enter the FOB value from the shipping bill in rupees.
- Enter the rate, and the cap per unit and quantity if the schedule lists a cap.
- Read the benefit and compare it with the amount credited as scrip in your customs record.
What does your result mean?
The result is an estimate of the RoDTEP benefit for one shipment. A higher effective rate means the item carries a larger embedded-duty refund. If the capped benefit is lower than the uncapped one, the cap is limiting the claim. The final credit depends on the customs record.
- Uncapped result: Shows what the rate alone would give on the FOB value.
- Capped result: Shows the amount after applying the per-unit cap, if the schedule lists one.
- Effective rate: Falls below the schedule rate when a cap applies.
- Actual credit: Set by customs processing of the shipping bill, so it can differ from this estimate.
What does the RoDTEP Benefit Calculator assume, and what does it not cover?
- Rates used: No rate is built in. The user enters the rate from the current DGFT schedule.
- Rate versions: Schedules are revised over time, so use the one in force on the shipping bill date.
- Not covered: Eligibility, exclusions, scrip utilisation and any ceiling conditions in the notification.
- Currency: FOB value is entered in rupees, converted as on the shipping bill.
What do people get wrong when calculating this?
- Wrong schedule: Using Appendix 4R rates for an AA, EOU or SEZ shipment that falls under Appendix 4RE.
- Old rate: Using a rate from a superseded notification.
- Skipping the cap: Ignoring a per-unit cap printed against the item.
- Wrong code: Picking a tariff item at the wrong digit level, which gives a different rate.
Which rules should you know about this?
RoDTEP rates are notified by DGFT in Appendix 4R for exports from the domestic tariff area and Appendix 4RE for advance authorisation, EOU and SEZ units, as listed on the DGFT RoDTEP page. Check the schedule in force on the shipping bill date.

Frequently asked questions
Where can the RoDTEP rate schedule be found?
The RoDTEP rates are published by DGFT on its RoDTEP page as Appendix 4R and Appendix 4RE notifications, each with an effective date. The page lists several versions, so pick the one that applies on the date of the shipping bill and match the tariff item. Always note the effective date printed on the notification.
Does the RoDTEP calculator include a built-in rate list?
The RoDTEP calculator holds no rate data. The user reads the rate for the tariff item from the DGFT schedule and enters it with the FOB value. This avoids showing a stale rate when the schedule is revised by a new notification.
How is a per-unit value cap applied in the RoDTEP calculation?
When the schedule lists a cap for an item, the calculator multiplies the cap per unit by the quantity shipped and compares it with the FOB value multiplied by the rate. The lower of the two amounts is shown as the capped RoDTEP benefit.
Is the RoDTEP calculator result the amount that will be credited?
The result is an estimate. The credit is determined from the shipping bill and customs processing, and it can differ if the code, value or eligibility differs from the entries made in the calculator. Compare the figure with the customs record.
Which RoDTEP appendix applies to an advance authorisation export?
The DGFT RoDTEP page lists Appendix 4R for domestic tariff area exports and Appendix 4RE for exports by advance authorisation, EOU and SEZ holders. Check the notification text for the exact conditions before entering a rate. Check the official page again before each filing, since details can change over time and the tool does not update itself.
