What does the Wise Fee Calculator for Receiving Money in India calculate?

How is the Wise Fee for Receiving Money in India calculation done?

The Wise fee calculator deducts Wise's fees from the USD amount and converts the rest at the mid-market rate. Wise's calculator charged 1.6% on the converted amount, a $2 fee per payment, and 18% GST on both fees. The rupees received equal the converted dollars multiplied by the mid-market rate.

Total fee (USD) = 1.18 x (conversion fee + $2), where conversion fee = 1.6% of (amount - total fee), with 1.5% on the converted part between $25,000 and $375,000 in Wise's calculator. INR received = (amount - total fee) x mid-market rate.

For example, Wise's calculator on 8 October 2026 showed a $1,000 receipt to USD account details with a conversion fee of $15.68, a $2.00 fee and GST of $3.18, a total of $20.86. At its mid-market rate of 96.7875 (example rate), the remaining $979.14 became ₹94,768.51, a cost of about 2.09%.

How do you use the Wise Fee Calculator for Receiving Money in India?

  1. Enter the USD amount your client will send to your Wise USD account details.
  2. Check the mid-market rate and its date shown under the amount; the page loads the latest rate it has.
  3. Read the conversion fee, the $2 per-payment fee and the 18% GST on both fees.
  4. Read the INR received, which is what Wise pays to your linked Indian bank account.
  5. Compare the total cost percentage with the figure in Wise's own calculator before you invoice.

What does your result mean?

The Wise fee calculator result shows the rupees you can expect for one USD bank transfer and what Wise charges for it. A total cost near 2.1% matches Wise's calculator for a $1,000 payment. Small payments cost a larger share because the $2 fee is fixed, while payments above about $25,000 cost slightly less.

  • Small payments: A $100 payment cost $4.18 in Wise's calculator, about 4.2%, because the $2 fee and its GST weigh more on a small amount.
  • Typical invoices: Payments from $1,000 to $25,000 cost about 1.86% to 2.09% in Wise's calculator readings on 8 October 2026, falling as the amount rises.
  • Large payments: A $100,000 payment cost $1,770.52, about 1.77%, because the conversion fee falls to 1.5% on the part above $25,000.
  • Exchange rate: Wise converts at the mid-market rate, so the whole cost sits in the stated fees and GST.

What does the Wise Fee Calculator for Receiving Money in India assume, and what does it not cover?

  • Rates used: Fees are dated readings from Wise's price data for an Indian business receiving USD on 8 October 2026. Wise does not publish them as a price list, and they can change.
  • Payment type: The calculator covers a USD bank transfer to Wise USD account details. Wise's calculator showed $27.93 on $1,000 for an international Swift wire, which includes a $6.11 pay-in fee.
  • Taxes included: GST is 18% of the conversion fee plus the $2 fee, as stated on Wise's India receive pricing page. Income tax on the payment is not covered.
  • Not covered: Other currencies such as GBP or EUR are not covered, because Wise says its conversion fee depends on the currency. Fees charged by the sender's bank are also not included.

What do people get wrong when calculating this?

  • Personal account: Wise's India personal pricing page says receiving money is available only for business customers, so the result applies to Wise Business accounts.
  • Ignoring the $2: The $2 fee and its GST apply to every payment, so splitting one invoice into several payments adds cost.
  • Wire versus ACH: A client who sends an international wire instead of a US bank transfer raises the cost in Wise's calculator.
  • Old readings: Wise can change its fees at any time, so check its calculator on the day you invoice a large amount.
