Short answer

Razorpay, Cashfree and PayU are Indian gateways that businesses compare with Stripe on cost in 2026. The comparison table on this page shows their fees from platform data. Cross-border collections fall under the RBI payment aggregator rules and FEMA export regulations. Exporters also need a purpose code, a GST LUT and proof of payment such as a FIRA.

How do Razorpay, Cashfree and PayU compare with Stripe on cost for Indian businesses accepting international payments?

Platforms named in the question are shown alongside the 2 highest payouts among the platforms this site covers, ranked by the INR received on a $5,000 invoice. Fees were checked on 30 Sept 2026.

Which platforms are named as Stripe alternatives, and can Indian residents use them?

Razorpay, Cashfree and PayU take sign-ups from Indian businesses for international payments, and Stripe accepts registered Indian businesses by invite only. A lower fee only helps if you qualify for the account. Stripe excludes individuals, Cashfree asks for a registered business and Razorpay lists Individual as a business type. For head-to-head detail see Stripe vs Razorpay, Stripe vs Cashfree and Stripe vs PayU.

Which option costs least on $500, $2,000 and $5,000: Stripe, Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU?

Each row applies the platform's published fee, FX markup and 18% GST on the fee to the XE mid-market rate for 4 Nov 2026. Platforms without full published pricing are not included.

For example, on a $2,000 invoice Skydo pays about ₹1,87,129 and Stripe about ₹1,75,181 at today's reference rate, a difference of ₹11,947.

What documents and GST rules apply when an Indian business moves from Stripe to a cheaper gateway?

The export documents and GST rules stay the same whichever gateway collects the money, so a cheaper gateway does not remove any filing. A service is an export of services under IGST Act s.2(6) when the supplier is in India, the recipient and place of supply are outside India, payment comes in convertible foreign exchange or permitted INR, and the two are not merely establishments of one person. Under RBI PA directions para 11(h), a PA-CB must give your AD bank the documents needed to close EDPMS entries.

What changed this year?

The FEMA (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026 came into force on 1 October 2026 for every exporter, whichever gateway collects. A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 20 superseded the Master Direction on Export of Goods and Services and the SOFTEX circulars from the same date. The EDF guide covers the filing steps.

  • Regulations: FEMA 23(R)/2026-RB replaced the 2015 export regulations from 1 October 2026 (FEMA Regulations 2026).
  • Realisation: Service export proceeds must be realised within nine months of the invoice date, or twelve months if invoiced or settled in INR, and the AD bank may extend this. Amendment FEMA 23(R)/(1)/2026-RB of 22 September 2026 set these periods (Reg 5).
  • EDF: Service exporters file an EDF within 30 days from the end of the invoice month, and the AD bank may extend the deadline on request (Reg 3(2)).
  • SOFTEX: Circular No. 20 lists the SOFTEX circulars among those superseded from 1 October 2026 (Circular No. 20).
  • EDPMS: Entries for invoices up to Rs 10 lakh can be closed on the exporter's declaration (Reg 4(2)).

Frequently asked questions

Do Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU charge lower payment processing fees than Stripe in India in 2026?

It depends on the payment method, currency and invoice size. The comparison table on this page shows fees from verified platform data at $500, $2,000 and $5,000. For the full charge lists, see Stripe fees in India, Razorpay fees, Cashfree fees and PayU fees.

Does a cheaper Stripe alternative such as Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU change the GST LUT rule for export invoices?

No. The LUT rule depends on the export, not the gateway. Under CGST Rule 96A, a registered person who wants to export without paying IGST files a Letter of Undertaking in FORM GST RFD-11 before export. IGST Act s.16 treats exports as zero rated supplies, whichever gateway collects the money.

Does the RBI Rs 25 lakh PA-CB transaction limit apply to Stripe alternatives in India?

The limit applies to any inward or outward transaction processed by a PA-CB, whichever company runs it. Paragraph 11(d) of the RBI Master Direction on Payment Aggregators sets the maximum at Rs 25 lakh per transaction. For a larger invoice, ask your AD bank about receiving it as a direct bank remittance.

Is a foreign card payment settled in INR always a PA-CB transaction under RBI rules in 2026?

No. The definitions in paragraph 4 of the RBI Master Direction on Payment Aggregators say a card transaction is not PA-CB activity when the card network handles the foreign exchange settlement and the aggregator receives local currency. Ask your gateway how it routes your international card payments.

Which RBI purpose code do Stripe, Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU ask for when accepting export payments?

You pick the code from the RBI purpose code list that matches your export, such as software or consulting. Stripe asks for a transaction purpose code during export onboarding. Razorpay asks you to select one when activating International Bank Transfer. The purpose code finder can help you shortlist codes.

How long does FEMA 2026 allow for realising export payments collected through a cheaper gateway than Stripe?

Regulation 5 of the FEMA Regulations 2026 sets nine months from the invoice date for services. The period is twelve months when the export is invoiced or settled in INR. Your AD bank can extend the period if you give reasons for the delay. The rule is the same for every gateway.

Does a service exporter still file an EDF after moving from Stripe to Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU?

Yes. Regulation 3(2) of the FEMA Regulations 2026 requires an EDF within 30 days from the end of the month the services invoice is raised. One EDF can cover all exports in a month. Exporters of services other than software may submit it on or before the date payment is received.

Is IGST charged on export payments when an Indian freelancer uses Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU in place of Stripe?

No IGST is due on a supply that meets the export test in IGST Act s.2(6) when it is made under a Letter of Undertaking. The test needs the recipient and place of supply outside India and payment in convertible foreign exchange or INR permitted by RBI, among other conditions. The gateway does not change this test.
