Short answer

AD code registration links your bank's Authorised Dealer code to your ICEGATE profile as the declared bank for your foreign remittances. You register online from your ICEGATE user profile, under the Foreign Remittance Account (Authorized Dealer Code) option. ICEGATE's FAQ says approval usually takes 7 to 10 working days while the status shows customs pending.

What is AD code registration for exporters?

AD code registration is the step where an exporter records the AD code of its bank branch on ICEGATE, the customs portal. The AD code identifies the authorised dealer bank branch that handles the foreign exchange for your exports. ICEGATE calls this account the Foreign Remittance Account (Authorized Dealer Code).

For the meaning of the code itself, see what is an AD code and what is an authorised dealer bank.

Who needs AD code registration on ICEGATE?

AD code registration on ICEGATE is needed by exporters of goods who clear shipments through Indian customs. Service exporters, such as freelancers and software firms, do not file shipping bills, and outside SEZs they submit the EDF for services to their AD bank under FEMA Regulations 2(1)(f) and 3(2).

How do you register an AD code on ICEGATE step by step?

You register an AD code from your ICEGATE profile after your ICEGATE ID is active and your bank has confirmed the AD code for your account. The steps below follow ICEGATE's FAQ, dashboard manual and the 1 October 2026 advisory. Screen names can change, so check the latest ICEGATE advisory before you start.

  1. Get the AD code from your bank. Ask the bank branch that maintains your account to confirm the AD code mapped to that account. DGFT notes that exporters should note the AD code of the concerned bank branch (DGFT e-commerce export handbook).
  2. Update your records with the bank first. ICEGATE advises that PAN, IEC, account number, IFSC and AD code must match across ICEGATE, DGFT and bank records, and that your IEC must be updated with the bank under the same customer profile (ICEGATE advisory, points 2, 3 and 6).
  3. Make sure you hold an ICEGATE ID. Register as Importer/Exporter using your GSTIN, IEC, DSC and Aadhaar if you have not done so (ICEGATE registration manual, section 7).
  4. Log in to ICEGATE, open your profile and go to the Bank Account tab, then select Foreign Remittance Account (Authorized Dealer Code) (ICEGATE dashboard manual, section 8.2).
  5. Enter the AD code and click Get Details. The system shows the bank name and the branch, or a dropdown of branches if several branches are linked to the same AD code (ICEGATE advisory, note 2).
  6. Select the account-maintaining branch and the AD code of the authorised foreign exchange branch, where applicable (ICEGATE advisory, point 8).
  7. Upload the supporting document only if the portal asks for it. For API-integrated banks, choosing a document type and uploading a document with its IRN is not required (ICEGATE advisory, note 1).
  8. Submit the request and track it. If the status shows customs pending, ICEGATE's FAQ says to expect 7 to 10 working days for approval (ICEGATE FAQ).

What bank letter or document is needed for AD code registration on ICEGATE?

For banks that are integrated with ICEGATE through API, the advisory says you do not need to select a document type or upload a document with its IRN (ICEGATE advisory, note 1). For other banks, the portal may still ask for a supporting document. Ask your AD bank for written confirmation of the AD code linked to your account and keep it ready.

  • Scanned documents uploaded on ICEGATE must be in colour, in JPG or PDF format and under 1500 KB (ICEGATE Registration FAQ, Q9).
  • The bank decides verification results. ICEGATE passes requests and responses and does not alter the outcome the bank sends (ICEGATE advisory).

What do you need before you can register on ICEGATE as an exporter?

You need an email ID and mobile number registered with GSTN and DGFT, a name that matches PAN records, and a DSC and Aadhaar for the authorised person (ICEGATE Registration FAQ, Q6 and Q8). Exporters upload a self-attested IEC and an authorisation letter (ICEGATE registration manual, Annexure A).

How do you change the IFSC code on ICEGATE after a bank merger?

ICEGATE's FAQ says to go to Export Promotion, Bank account management, and use the Modify option to update the new IFSC code (ICEGATE FAQ). Update the IFSC with your bank and DGFT too, since ICEGATE checks that details match across all three records.

What should you do if customs rejects an AD code application on ICEGATE?

ICEGATE's FAQ says to resubmit a new application when the customs officer rejects an AD code application (ICEGATE FAQ). Before resubmitting, find out the reason for rejection and, where it is a bank record issue such as a PAN or IEC mismatch, fix it with your bank.

Which details and documents does AD code registration on ICEGATE check?

AD code registration on ICEGATE checks that your bank details match what the bank and DGFT hold. The 1 October 2026 ICEGATE advisory lists these items and says users should update records with the bank before starting an AD code or incentive account request.

What happens if AD code registration on ICEGATE fails or is missing?

If AD code verification fails, the registration does not go through until you correct the details with your bank and try again. ICEGATE lists the common causes, and says the bank's response decides the result. Exporters should fix this before shipping, since customs forms such as the courier shipping bill carry the AD code.

  • Common causes: Wrong account number or IFSC, an invalid or unmapped AD code, a PAN or IEC mismatch, PAN and IEC mapped to different customer IDs, outdated KYC, an inactive account or the wrong branch (ICEGATE advisory, common reasons).
  • Rejection: If customs rejects the application, ICEGATE's FAQ says to resubmit a new application (ICEGATE FAQ).
  • Bank downtime: Verification depends on the bank's systems. If processing continues after the browser session, check the application status before submitting a fresh request (ICEGATE advisory, bank system availability).
  • Realisation: Export proceeds must be realised within nine months of shipment, or twelve months if invoiced or settled in rupees, and the AD bank must monitor and follow up on this (FEMA Regulations 2026, Regulation 5).

Re-check what you entered on ICEGATE, then ask your bank to correct its records, as ICEGATE advises (ICEGATE advisory). If the problem continues, contact the ICEGATE helpdesk on 1800-3010-1000 or icegatehelpdesk@icegate.gov.in (ICEGATE Registration FAQ, Q17).

What is the timeline for AD code registration on ICEGATE?

The AD code timeline runs from ICEGATE registration, which takes about 3 to 4 working days, to customs approval of the AD code, which ICEGATE puts at 7 to 10 working days. After that, FEMA deadlines for the export declaration and realisation apply to each shipment.

What are common mistakes in AD code registration on ICEGATE?

  • Wrong branch: Using the AD code of a branch that does not maintain the account. ICEGATE asks for the account-maintaining branch and the AD code of the authorised foreign exchange branch (ICEGATE advisory, point 8).
  • Stale KYC: Starting on ICEGATE before updating KYC, PAN and IEC with the bank. ICEGATE advises updating bank records first (ICEGATE advisory).
  • Name mismatch: Using a trade name that differs from PAN and DGFT records. The organisation name must match PAN (ICEGATE registration manual, Annexure B).
  • Missing authority: Filing for a firm or company without an authorisation letter or board resolution that covers AD code registration (ICEGATE registration manual, Annexure B).
  • Duplicate requests: Submitting a fresh request while an earlier one is still processing. ICEGATE asks users to check the application status first (ICEGATE advisory).
  • Late start: Registering in the week of the first shipment. ICEGATE ID approval and AD code approval together can take two weeks or more (ICEGATE Registration FAQ, Q16; ICEGATE FAQ).

Is the AD code the same as the IFSC code?

The AD code and the IFSC code are separate entries on ICEGATE. The 1 October 2026 advisory lists the IFSC code and the AD code as two details that must both be correct (ICEGATE advisory). The IFSC must match the account-maintaining branch, and the AD code must be valid and mapped to the account.

Can an exporter register more than one AD code on ICEGATE?

The ICEGATE dashboard manual describes the Foreign Remittance Account (Authorized Dealer Code) section as showing the declaration of banks used for foreign remittances, in the plural (ICEGATE dashboard manual, section 8.2.2). Ask the customs location or ICEGATE helpdesk how multiple AD codes apply to your ports before shipping.

Is the incentive bank account on ICEGATE the same as the AD code account?

The incentive bank account and the AD code account are separate entries on ICEGATE. The Refund/Incentive Account receives export incentives granted by customs, while the Foreign Remittance Account declares the AD banks for foreign remittances (ICEGATE dashboard manual, section 8.2). The advisory's bank verification covers both, with an extra AD code check for the AD code account (ICEGATE advisory).

Where can an exporter check whether a shipping bill reached EDPMS?

An exporter can use the ICEGATE public enquiry 'Status of SB in RBI – EDPMS', entering the shipping bill number, date and location to see the date of transmission to EDPMS (ICEGATE FAQ). If there is a discrepancy, ICEGATE advises contacting your bank. See how to check outstanding shipping bills.

Does the AD code need to be given to a courier for export?

Yes. DGFT's e-commerce handbook tells exporters to give the authorised courier their GST details, IEC, HSN code and AD code (DGFT e-commerce export handbook). The Courier Shipping Bill V also has an AD Code field (ECCS Regulations, Form HA). Keep the code the same as the one your bank has mapped.
