Short answer

You can receive EGP in India through local Egyptian account details paid over InstaPay or a domestic bank transfer, a SWIFT wire, or a card checkout. Remittance apps under the Money Transfer Service Scheme cannot carry trade payments. On EGP 280,000, Stripe pays the most of the platforms with full published pricing for EGP: about ₹4,43,993 on 3 Nov 2026.

Who this is for: This page is for Indian freelancers, agencies and registered exporters who invoice clients in Egypt in Egyptian pounds and want the payment converted to rupees in an Indian bank account.

Which platforms are best for receiving EGP in India?

The table ranks platforms with full published pricing for EGP by the INR received on EGP 280,000, then lists other business platforms that accept EGP, unranked. Fees were checked on 30 Sept 2026 or later.

What is the real EGP to INR rate you receive?

The real EGP rate is the rupees you get after margins. The RBI exchange rates panel has no EGP rate, so EGP to INR is a cross rate through the US dollar from the Central Bank of Egypt. For example, if the cross rate were Rs 1.85 per EGP and you got Rs 1.80, that example markup is about 2.7%.

Today's rate, its history and every platform's payout are on the EGP to INR rate page.

How much INR do you receive on EGP 110,000, 280,000 and 550,000?

Each row applies the platform's published fee, FX markup and 18% GST on the fee to the mid-market rate of ₹1.713 per EGP for 3 Nov 2026.

Can you hold EGP in India?

An Indian resident can hold export earnings in an Exchange Earner's Foreign Currency (EEFC) account. Up to 100% of export and professional earnings can be credited under paragraph 3.1 of the RBI Master Direction on Deposits and Accounts. The account pays no interest. Ask whether your bank offers an EEFC account in Egyptian pounds, or hold US dollars instead.

  • Who qualifies: A person resident in India receiving foreign exchange earnings through normal banking channels, including exporters and professionals earning fees in an individual capacity, under paragraph 3.1.
  • Conversion rule: Each calendar month's accruals should be converted into rupees by the last day of the next month, after adjusting for approved uses or forward commitments, under paragraph 3.1.
  • Uses: Balances can pay for permitted current and capital account transactions abroad. Credit facilities against EEFC balances are not allowed under paragraph 3.1. See EEFC account benefits.
  • Alternatives: Some providers of local EGP details may let you keep a pound balance before payout. Ask how the balance is held, and remember the rupee credit in India still needs export documents.

When should you convert EGP to INR?

  • Spot: Convert each EGP receipt at the rate on the day it arrives. This is simple and suits small, regular invoices.
  • Forward contract: A forward fixes a rate today for a future receipt, and the hedge cannot exceed the value or tenor of the export exposure under RBI Master Direction on Risk Management and Inter-Bank Dealings, paragraph 2.4. Ask your AD bank whether it quotes EGP forwards; if the client pays in US dollars, a USD/INR forward may be easier. See forward contracts for exporters.
  • Limit order: Ask your bank or provider whether it can convert automatically when EGP reaches a rate you set, and what happens if the rate is never reached.
  • Natural hedge: Use EGP receipts to pay pound costs in Egypt, such as local contractors, events or travel, so less needs converting into rupees.

What documents and compliance apply to EGP receipts?

An EGP export receipt follows the same rules as any foreign currency receipt. Egypt is outside the Asian Clearing Union, so payment may be in any foreign currency under the FEMA Manner of Receipt and Payment Regulations, 2023. You need a purpose code, proof of receipt and, for services, an EDF.

  • Purpose code: Each inward remittance carries an RBI purpose code from the FETERS purpose code list. For example, P0802 is "Software consultancy/implementation (other than those covered in SOFTEX form)" and P1006 is "Business and management consultancy and public relations services".
  • EDF: From 1 October 2026, service exporters file an Export Declaration Form within 30 days from the end of the invoice month under Regulation 3(2) of the FEMA Export and Import Regulations, 2026. The EDF replaces SOFTEX, as A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 20 superseded the SOFTEX circulars. See EDF form for export.
  • Realisation: Export value must be realised within nine months, or twelve months if invoiced or settled in rupees, under Regulation 5 as amended on 22 September 2026. For services the period runs from the invoice date. Your AD bank may extend it.
  • FIRA: FIRA is not a term defined in FEMA or the 2026 Regulations. It is a bank or provider advice confirming the credit, and you keep it as proof of export receipt. See what is FIRA.
  • PA-CB safety: Card and online checkout providers must be RBI-authorised PA-CBs. They hold export proceeds in an Inward Collection Account, kept separately for INR and each non-INR currency, with a Rs 25 lakh cap per transaction, under the RBI Master Direction on Payment Aggregators, paragraphs 11 and 16.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no RBI reference rate for the Egyptian pound (EGP)?

The RBI exchange rates panel shows FBIL reference rates for the US dollar, pound sterling, euro, yen, UAE dirham and Indonesian rupiah, but not the Egyptian pound. The Central Bank of Egypt quotes EGP against the dollar and other currencies, not the rupee. Banks therefore price EGP to INR as a cross rate.

Can an Egyptian client send EGP to an Indian bank account through InstaPay?

No. The Central Bank of Egypt describes the Instant Payment Network as a network linking banks operating inside Egypt, with InstaPay as its app. A client can use it only to pay Egyptian account details, such as local EGP details a provider opens in your name. Paying an Indian account directly needs an international transfer such as a SWIFT wire.

What exchange rate does the Central Bank of Egypt publish for EGP?

The Central Bank of Egypt publishes a daily market exchange rate. On 7 October 2026 the weighted average was EGP 52.3902 per US dollar. Its exchange rates page also lists buy and sell rates for the euro, pound sterling, Saudi riyal, UAE dirham and other currencies. The rupee is not listed.

Which purpose code applies to EGP received for software or consulting services?

EGP received for software services often uses P0802, "Software consultancy/implementation (other than those covered in SOFTEX form)", in the RBI purpose code list. Consulting fits P1006, "Business and management consultancy and public relations services". The currency does not change the purpose code. See P0802 purpose code.

Can EGP be received through a remittance app as payment for export services?

No. Remittance apps that pay out under the Money Transfer Service Scheme can carry only personal inward remittances. The RBI Master Direction on MTSS bars trade related remittances and caps each remittance at USD 2,500. EGP export income must come through a bank or an authorised provider.

Is IGST charged on services invoiced in EGP under a Letter of Undertaking (LUT)?

No IGST is paid on export invoices supplied under a Letter of Undertaking under Rule 96A. Export of services is zero-rated under IGST Act section 16. One condition in section 2(6) is payment in convertible foreign exchange, so confirm with your adviser how an EGP receipt is treated.

Does an Egyptian client withhold tax on EGP fees paid to an Indian business?

It may. Article 56 of Egypt's Income Tax Law No. 91 of 2005, as published in 2005, taxes payments for services to non-residents at 20%, withheld by the payer. The law has been amended since. The India-Egypt tax treaty may give relief, so agree the position before you invoice in EGP.

How long does an Indian exporter have to realise an EGP invoice?

Nine months, counted from the invoice date for services and the shipment date for goods, under Regulation 5 of the FEMA (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026 as amended on 22 September 2026. If the export is invoiced or settled in rupees, the period is twelve months. Your AD bank may extend it.
