Short answer

You can withdraw Freelancer.com earnings to India by Express Withdrawal to an Indian bank in INR, a USD Wire Transfer, PayPal or Payoneer, after completing KYC and the 15 day first withdrawal delay. The marketplace does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so no payout is calculated.

Who this is for: This page is for Indian freelancers, from individuals to GST-registered service exporters, who earn on Freelancer.com and want to move their balance into an Indian bank account.

What withdrawal methods does Freelancer.com support for India?

How does each Freelancer.com withdrawal method work?

How does Express Withdrawal (INR to an Indian bank) work for Freelancer.com payouts?

Open the Express Withdrawal page, select India and enter the amount, which fills in INR automatically. Add your bank name, routing code, account number and type, then the account name and a physical address exactly as your bank holds them.

  • Pros: $1 withdrawal fee; Paid in INR to your own Indian bank account; No intermediary bank fees, per Freelancer.com; Lower minimum than Wire Transfer
  • Cons: Exchange rate includes an unpublished conversion fee; Only local currency, so you cannot receive USD this way; Once you withdraw to a company account, the personal account option is closed
  • Cost: $1 per withdrawal, per the Freelancer.com Express Withdrawals guide. Freelancer.com says no intermediary fees apply.
  • Time: 2 to 3 business days after processing, allow up to 5
  • FIRA: Freelancer.com's pages do not mention a remittance certificate for Express Withdrawal. Ask your bank how the INR credit is recorded and contact Freelancer.com support if you need a payout record.
  • Ideal for: Individual freelancers who want regular rupee payouts without a wallet in between.

How does Wire Transfer (USD) work for Freelancer.com payouts?

Complete KYC, and Corporate KYC for a company account. Upload a bank statement under three months old when Freelancer.com asks, then choose Wire Transfer, enter your bank details and an address that matches the statement, and request at least $500.

  • Pros: USD arrives as a foreign inward remittance your bank can report with a purpose code; Your own bank handles conversion; Suits large single transfers
  • Cons: $25 fee plus possible intermediary bank charges; $500 minimum; Fee is charged even on failed attempts; Slowest method
  • Cost: $25 per withdrawal, per the Freelancer.com Wire Transfer guide. Intermediary banks may charge more, and the fee applies to unsuccessful attempts too.
  • Time: 5 to 7 business days after processing, though the Freelancer.com time frames page says 3 to 5
  • FIRA: Your Indian bank receives a foreign currency wire and can usually issue an inward remittance certificate or advice. Check with your AD bank.
  • Ideal for: Registered exporters who want bank paperwork for GST and EDF records.

How does PayPal work for Freelancer.com payouts?

Verify your PayPal account with PayPal, then add it as a verified payment method on Freelancer.com through Verify Payment Method and Add PayPal Account. Your Freelancer.com account must be KYC verified before you request the withdrawal.

  • Pros: $1 Freelancer.com fee; Usually arrives within a day of processing; Simple to link
  • Cons: PayPal rates and fees are not shown on Freelancer.com; Money reaches PayPal first, then your bank as a second step; PayPal may require its Auto Sweep feature for some countries
  • Cost: $1 per withdrawal, per the Freelancer.com withdrawal guide. PayPal may apply its own fees, and the PayPal withdrawal guide requires a verified PayPal account.
  • Time: Within 24 hours of processing to the PayPal account
  • FIRA: Freelancer.com does not issue one. Ask PayPal what inward remittance record it provides for the transfer to your Indian bank.
  • Ideal for: Freelancers who already receive other income through a verified PayPal account.

How does Payoneer work for Freelancer.com payouts?

Select Payoneer on the Withdrawals page, sign in or sign up, and wait for Payoneer to approve and link the account. Enter the amount, confirm the OTP sent to your phone and submit the request.

  • Pros: $1 Freelancer.com fee; Arrives within 24 hours of processing; Lets you hold USD before moving it to India
  • Cons: USD only; Moving money from Payoneer to India is a second step with Payoneer's own charges; Changing the linked account needs Freelancer.com support
  • Cost: $1 per withdrawal, per the Freelancer.com Payoneer guide
  • Time: Within 24 hours of processing to the Payoneer balance
  • FIRA: Freelancer.com does not issue one. Ask Payoneer what record it provides when you transfer the balance to your Indian bank.
  • Ideal for: Freelancers who use several platforms and want one USD balance before transferring to India.

How do you set up Freelancer.com withdrawals to India?

  1. Verify your email address and phone number on Freelancer.com.
  2. Complete KYC in the Verification Center with a government ID, a keycode photo and proof of address; review usually takes 2 to 3 business days.
  3. Go to Settings, Payment & Financials, Tax Information and add your PAN under TDS Identification Number.
  4. In the same section, add your GSTIN, or select Are you exempt from GSTIN? and save a reason, because payouts stay disabled until this is done.
  5. Open Withdraw funds from your profile menu and choose Express Withdrawal, Wire Transfer, PayPal or Payoneer.
  6. Enter your Indian bank details, including the account name and physical address exactly as your bank holds them, or link your PayPal or Payoneer account in your own name.
  7. Enter at least $50 ($500 for a wire), review the fee and submit; the first request waits 15 days before processing.

How much INR do you receive on $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 from Freelancer.com?

Freelancer.com does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so INR amounts are not calculated. The methods table above lists every fee it does publish.

What fees does Freelancer.com charge before you withdraw?

Freelancer.com charges freelancers a project fee of 10% of the winning bid or $5, whichever is greater, per its project fees guide. Hourly projects pay 10% of each released milestone, and tips also carry 10%. For example, a $100 fixed-price project leaves $90 before India TDS, TCS and the withdrawal fee.

What tax forms and TDS apply to Freelancer.com earnings?

Freelancer.com asks Indian freelancers for a PAN and a GSTIN or a GST exemption reason under Payment & Financials, per its India TDS guide. It deducts income tax TDS and collects GST TCS from earnings. Its US tax page covers Form 1099-K for US persons, and the W-8BEN-E it offers carries Freelancer.com's own details.

  • US form: Freelancer.com's US tax reporting page covers Form 1099-K for US persons and offers a W-8BEN-E pre-filled with Freelancer.com's own details on request. The IRS says a foreign person who is the beneficial owner gives Form W-8BEN to the withholding agent or payer, and W-8BEN-E is the entity version. Submit one only if a payer asks for it. See W-8BEN for Indian freelancers.
  • TDS: Section 393(1) of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (Table Sl. No. 8(v)) sets TDS by an e-commerce operator at 0.1% of gross sales or services, and section 397(2) raises it to 5% without a valid PAN. Individuals whose gross platform sales stay within Rs 5,00,000 a year and who furnish a PAN or Aadhaar are exempt. Freelancer.com's India TDS guide applies 0.10% from that threshold, though its fees page still lists 1% / 5%. TDS certificates appear in the Tax Statements tab. See TDS on marketplace payouts.
  • GST TCS: Freelancer.com collects GST TCS and asks freelancers earning Rs 20 lakh or more a year to add a GSTIN, per its India TCS guide. CGST Act section 52 caps TCS at 1% of the net value of taxable supplies, at a rate the government notifies. The guide states 0.10% while the fees page lists 1%, so check the amount on your statements. The guide also lists Freelancer.com's GST number for each state.
  • GST on fees: Freelancer.com's project fees guide says government taxes may apply depending on your region, without naming a GST rate for India. IGST Act section 5(3) lets the government notify services on which the recipient pays GST under reverse charge, so check GST on the 10% fee with your tax advisor.
  • Levy line: The Freelancer.com fees page still shows an India Equalisation Levy Reimbursement of 2% on gross earnings for Indian resident freelancers. If you see this charge in your transaction history, ask Freelancer.com support whether it still applies to your account.
  • Export GST: Services meeting all five conditions in IGST Act section 2(6) are exports and are zero-rated under section 16. A registered freelancer files an LUT under CGST Rule 96A to export without paying IGST. See LUT filing.
  • Income tax: Freelancer.com income is taxed in India. The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act from 1 April 2026, and the old section 44ADA presumptive scheme now sits in section 58. Section 44ADA still governs income of financial year 2025-26 and earlier. See section 44ADA for freelancers.

Do Freelancer.com payouts give you FIRA, and what purpose code applies?

Why do Freelancer.com withdrawals to India fail or get held?

  • First delay: Every first withdrawal waits 15 days before processing, per the Freelancer.com 15 day delay guide. Later requests follow the Sunday and Wednesday 5 PM New York cut-offs. Plus, Professional and Premier members with one successful withdrawal get Daily Withdrawal processing within one business day.
  • Request cancelled: Freelancer.com cancels a request when fees fall due before processing, the balance cannot cover charges, bank details do not match, or the funds came from a deposit, per its cancelled withdrawal guide. Leave enough balance for membership renewals and project fees, then submit a new request.
  • Payout disabled: Payouts stay disabled until you add a GSTIN or declare a GST exemption reason, per the Freelancer.com India TCS guide. Withdrawals also need KYC, per the KYC guide. Finish both in Settings and the Verification Center before you request money.
  • Name mismatch: Enter the account name and physical address exactly as your bank holds them, since P.O. Box addresses are rejected, per the Express Withdrawals guide. For a wire, the address must match your bank statement, per the Wire Transfer guide. Mismatched details can cancel the request.
  • Wrong account: If a PayPal withdrawal went to the wrong email, cancel it while pending. If already processed, contact support with the correct and incorrect emails and the date, per the Freelancer.com guide. Recovered funds return to your balance within three business days.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Freelancer.com withdrawal take to reach an Indian bank account?

A first Freelancer.com withdrawal waits 15 days before processing. After processing, Express Withdrawal usually reaches an Indian bank in 2 to 3 business days, and up to 5. A USD wire takes 5 to 7 business days. PayPal and Payoneer receive funds within 24 hours, before your own transfer to India.

What is the minimum Freelancer.com withdrawal amount for Indian freelancers?

The minimum Freelancer.com withdrawal is $50 after fees for Express Withdrawal, PayPal and Payoneer. Wire Transfer needs at least $500 and is paid only in USD. The Freelancer.com User Agreement also sets a maximum withdrawal of $10,000 per month unless support agrees otherwise, and it lets Freelancer.com delay a first withdrawal for up to fifteen days.

Can Freelancer.com pay Indian freelancers in INR?

Freelancer.com lists India (INR) as an Express Withdrawal country, so earnings can be paid in rupees to an Indian bank account. The exchange rate is quoted at withdrawal, and the User Agreement says any conversion fee is built into that rate. Wire Transfer and Payoneer withdrawals are paid in USD instead.

Why is the Freelancer.com payout option disabled for an Indian account?

Freelancer.com disables payouts for Indian freelancers until the Tax Information section shows a GSTIN or a saved GST exemption reason. Withdrawals also require KYC verification of your identity and address. Add your PAN at the same time, because Freelancer.com withholds 5% TDS when no valid, operative PAN is on the account.

Does Freelancer.com deduct TDS from Indian freelancer earnings?

Freelancer.com deducts TDS once an Indian freelancer's yearly earnings reach Rs 5,00,000, or earlier on opt-in. The Income-tax Act, 2025 sets 0.1% for e-commerce operators and 5% without a valid PAN, matching Freelancer.com's India TDS guide. Its fees page still shows 1% and 5%. Certificates appear in the Tax Statements tab.

Can a Freelancer.com freelancer get a daily withdrawal in India?

Freelancer.com offers Daily Withdrawal Requests to Plus, Professional and Premier members who have completed one successful withdrawal. The request is processed within one business day after verification, during Sydney business hours. It does not apply to the first withdrawal, which still waits 15 days, and it does not allow several requests at once.

Why did a Freelancer.com wire transfer to India cost more than $25?

Freelancer.com charges $25 for each Wire Transfer, including unsuccessful attempts. Intermediary banks on the SWIFT route may deduct their own charges, and your Indian bank may charge for the inward wire and apply its own USD to INR rate. Express Withdrawal in INR costs $1 and Freelancer.com says it carries no intermediary fees.

Does Freelancer.com issue a FIRA for withdrawals to Indian bank accounts?

Freelancer.com's support pages do not describe issuing a FIRA for withdrawals to India. A USD wire lets your Indian bank issue an inward remittance certificate or advice. For Express Withdrawal, ask your bank and Freelancer.com support for a payout record. Tax statements, including Form 16A, are in the Tax Statements tab.
