Short answer

Remote.com pays contractors in India to an Indian bank account in INR, USD or EUR, through a Stripe Connect account linked to an Indian bank in INR, or to a USD virtual account such as Payoneer. The marketplace does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so no payout is calculated.

Who this is for: This page is for Indian freelancers and independent contractors whose foreign clients pay them through Remote.com's Contractor Management, and who want the money in an Indian bank account.

What withdrawal methods does Remote.com support for India?

How does each Remote.com withdrawal method work?

How does Indian bank account in INR work for Remote.com payouts?

You add your Indian bank account under Deposit methods and choose INR. When you create an invoice in INR, Remote locks the rate and pays the invoiced rupee amount to your account.

  • Pros: Guaranteed payout: the invoiced INR amount is fixed at invoice creation; The locked rate stays valid for up to 90 days within Remote's tolerance range; Client bears FX and transaction costs when you invoice in INR
  • Cons: Remote's FX rate is not shown against a published mid-market benchmark; Your Indian bank may still deduct its own charges; Remote's help pages do not say how the inward remittance certificate is issued
  • Cost: No transfer fee for the contractor when you invoice in INR, since the client covers FX and transaction costs. If you invoice in the client's currency, those costs come out of the funded amount, per Remote contractor payout fees.
  • Time: 1 to 3 business days after Remote receives the client's payment, depending on bank location and currency.
  • FIRA: Remote's help pages do not mention FIRA or FIRC. You can download a payment receipt showing fees and the exchange rate. Ask your Indian bank for the inward remittance record.
  • Ideal for: Freelancers who prefer certainty about the rupee amount over handling their own currency conversion.

How does Indian bank account in USD or EUR (SWIFT) work for Remote.com payouts?

You add an Indian bank account with USD or EUR as the currency. Remote picks the route and sends a SWIFT transfer where no local route exists, per Remote SWIFT payouts.

  • Pros: Your own bank sets the conversion rate; India is listed for INR, EUR and USD payouts on Remote's supported currencies table; Useful if you hold foreign currency for later expenses
  • Cons: Correspondent bank fees of $20 to $50 can reduce the amount received; Some SWIFT codes are blocked by Remote's payment partners; The account must be able to receive the chosen currency
  • Cost: Remote passes on its payment provider's SWIFT fee. Correspondent bank fees of $20 to $50 may also apply when funds land, per Remote contractor payout fees.
  • Time: 1 to 3 business days after Remote receives the client's payment, plus SWIFT routing time through intermediary banks.
  • FIRA: Your receiving Indian bank handles the inward remittance and issues the certificate or advice.
  • Ideal for: Contractors with a foreign currency capable account who want to time their own conversion.

How does Stripe Connect to an Indian bank (INR) work for Remote.com payouts?

You create a Stripe Connect account from Remote and link an Indian bank account. Stripe pays a contractor living in India only in INR to an Indian bank, per Remote Stripe Connect currencies.

  • Pros: India is listed for Stripe Connect when the company pays in USD; Manual payouts or a daily, weekly or monthly schedule; Remote currently pays the Stripe account fees
  • Cons: Guaranteed FX payouts do not apply to Stripe Connect; Only an Indian bank account in INR can be linked; The first payout can take 7 to 14 days
  • Cost: Remote currently covers Stripe transaction fees and monthly account fees, per Remote Stripe Connect fees. Remote says this may change.
  • Time: Standard payouts take up to 3 business days. The first payout usually comes 7 to 14 days after Remote receives the client's payment.
  • FIRA: Not covered on Remote's help pages. Ask your Indian bank for the inward remittance record.
  • Ideal for: Contractors with USD-paying clients who want to control when the balance moves to their bank.

How does USD virtual account (Payoneer, PayPal or similar) work for Remote.com payouts?

You add the provider's US account number and ACH routing number as a virtual account, per Remote Payoneer setup. For PayPal, Remote says to enter the ABA routing and account numbers PayPal supplies as a bank account, per Remote PayPal help.

  • Pros: Payment arrives as a local USD transfer to US account details; You choose when to convert to rupees; An alternative if your bank's SWIFT code is blocked
  • Cons: Two providers are involved, Remote and the account provider; You bear the conversion cost when you move funds to India; Opening the account depends on the provider's own KYC and eligibility
  • Cost: Remote's help pages say local same-currency payments to virtual accounts often incur no payment costs. The account provider's own fees apply, per Remote virtual currency account guide.
  • Time: Remote's payout step takes 1 to 3 business days after it receives the client's payment. The provider's transfer to India adds its own time.
  • FIRA: Ask the virtual account provider and your Indian bank for the inward remittance record.
  • Ideal for: Contractors who already hold a USD virtual account in their own name.

How do you set up Remote.com withdrawals to India?

  1. Open the invitation email your client triggers from Remote, create a password and enter your personal, administrative and business details.
  2. Complete identity verification with a valid government photo ID and a live profile picture taken on camera.
  3. If your client is a US company, review and sign Form W-8BEN as an individual, or W-8BEN-E if you contract through an entity, in the Supporting documentation step. The W-8BEN uses the local tax identification number from your administrative details.
  4. Review and sign the contractor agreement, where your client has set one up.
  5. Go to Deposit methods, select Add deposit method, choose INR, USD or EUR and enter your Indian bank account details with the exact account holder name your bank uses.
  6. If you prefer, add a Stripe Connect account linked to your Indian bank in INR, or a USD virtual account with its account and ACH routing number.
  7. Set your preferred method as default, then create an invoice. The withdrawal method you pick sets the invoice currency, so pick INR for a guaranteed rupee payout.
  8. After the invoice shows Paid out, download the payment receipt from the invoice drawer and ask your bank for the inward remittance record.

How much INR do you receive on $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000 from Remote.com?

Remote.com does not publish full fees for its withdrawal methods, so INR amounts are not calculated. The methods table above lists every fee it does publish.

What fees does Remote.com charge before you withdraw?

Remote's help pages list no commission charged to contractors. The client pays the subscription, listed at $29 per contractor per month in Remote's pricing help, last updated in February 2025. For example, a contractor invoicing INR 1,00,000 in INR receives INR 1,00,000, before any charges deducted by their own Indian bank.

What tax forms and TDS apply to Remote.com earnings?

Remote.com asks contractors working with US companies for Form W-8BEN, or W-8BEN-E when contracting through an entity, during onboarding. Remote's contractor help pages do not describe any Indian TDS deduction. Remote's help pages show no fee charged to contractors, so no Remote fee arises on which GST would apply. You file your own Indian taxes.

  • W-8BEN: Remote collects Form W-8BEN from contractors outside the US who work with a US company, per Remote tax documentation help. Remote says the form needs annual renewal in its W-8BEN guide. The IRS says a foreign person gives it to the payer when asked. See W-8BEN for Indian freelancers.
  • TDS: Remote's contractor help pages do not describe any Indian TDS withheld on contractor payouts, and Remote says contractors receive no payslip and file their own taxes, per Remote payslip help. Check your annual tax statement and ask a tax adviser. See TDS on marketplace payouts.
  • GST on fees: Remote bills its subscription fee to the client company, not the contractor, so Remote's help pages show no fee charged to the contractor on which GST would apply. Remote lets Contractor Management contractors add VAT details to one-off invoices, per Remote contractor invoicing.
  • GST on exports: Your service to a client outside India is an export when the five conditions in IGST Act section 2(6) are met, and exports are zero-rated under section 16. Registered contractors file an LUT in Form GST RFD-11 under CGST Rule 96A. See LUT filing.
  • Income tax: The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act from 1 April 2026. The presumptive scheme for professionals under old section 44ADA now sits in section 58 of the 2025 Act. See section 44ADA for freelancers.

Do Remote.com payouts give you FIRA, and what purpose code applies?

  • FIRA by method: Remote's help pages do not mention FIRA, FIRC or purpose codes. For bank payouts, you can download a payment receipt that shows fees and exchange rate, per Remote payment receipt help. Your Indian bank issues the inward remittance advice. FIRA is a bank document name, not a term defined in FEMA regulations. See FIRC vs FIRA vs e-BRC.
  • Purpose code: Tell your bank which code fits your service. The RBI purpose code list describes P0802 as "Software consultancy/implementation (other than those covered in SOFTEX form)", P0807 as "Off site software exports", P1006 as "Business and management consultancy and public relations services" and P1099 as "Other services not included elsewhere". See purpose code for freelancers.
  • EDF: Under Regulation 3 of the FEMA Export and Import Regulations, 2026, services exporters file an EDF within 30 days from the end of the invoice month. It replaced SOFTEX from 1 October 2026 per A.P. (DIR Series) Circular No. 20. See EDF for exporters.
  • Realisation: Regulation 5, as amended on 22 September 2026, sets nine months from the invoice date to realise services export value, or twelve months if invoiced or settled in rupees. Remote pays only after the client pays, so follow up on unpaid invoices. Ask your AD bank how it applies to Remote payouts.

Why do Remote.com withdrawals to India fail or get held?

  • Payout on hold: Remote pays only after it receives the client's payment, per Remote approved invoice help. The client must finish business verification before paying, per Remote onboarding overview, and unapproved invoices are deleted after 90 days, per Remote paying contractors. Ask your client to approve and pay.
  • Name mismatch: The account holder name must match your bank's records exactly, including middle names, spacing and spelling, per Remote payment delay help. A business account needs proof that you are its Ultimate Beneficial Owner. Compare with your latest bank statement and edit the deposit method.
  • Funds returned: The Funds Returned status means your bank rejected the payout, per Remote invoice statuses. Correct the account number, IFSC or SWIFT details and check that the bank country matches the account location. Remote says that once details are corrected, the payment can be sent again, per Remote payment delay help.
  • Blocked bank: Remote and its partners block some SWIFT codes for compliance, high failure rates or missing correspondent banks, per Remote blocked banks. You see an error when adding one. Use another bank account or a USD virtual account.
  • Paid out, not received: Paid out means Remote has sent the funds. Check the deposit method for typos and contact Remote if nothing arrives after 2 business days, per Remote paid out help.
